I think fewer, CON remainers were already a headache for the party in the Euro elections, and Scotland's 13 CON seats are shaky too

Alright it's 4am and I've been drinking heavily to channel my inner spirit animal (communist tweaker cop). It's time to talk about Disco again (not the lovely TV program, Disco Elysium). Let's discuss the EU analogy. { Spoilers }, obviously. Context: A foreign bureaucrat in a white shirt stands in the room of his (heavily implied) homosexual lover. In a war torn country where a communist revolution has been mercilessly crushed by an amphibious invasion, this sleazy business man pays for the education of his young 'friend'. He talks to the local 'citizens militia' who are investigating a brutal murder. They have recently informed a grieving widow of the untimely death of her husband. Killed while in an alcoholic haze, slipping on a poorly maintained pier and cracking his skull open. Another victim of depression and social alienation, or so the jaded cops assume. The bureaucrat pontificates on the importance of maintaining inflation at 2%. This is vital to the 'international community', which one day the demoralised locals can join. Maybe. ... You can just feel the Eastern European influence dripping off this game. loving buy it.

Christmas election: Labour gains roughly 80 seats and gains majority, EU grants another extension until October 31st of next year with a renegotiated deal with a remain in EU option going up in another referendum in summer 2020, renegotiated deal has free movement so the right wing turnout is depressed, remain wins by a comfortable margin, Corbyn calls an emergency budget in January to end austerity and return public spending to pre-1976 levels by 2025, carbon emissions capped by 2030, 40 years of NHS privatization reversed, unoccupied flats are repossessed by the government, railways and utilities nationalized by the end of 2021, JSA cancelled, arms sales to Saudi Arabia and Israel ended. At least that's what my early morning thoughts are thinking. Chuka Umana fucked around with this message at 05:15 on Oct 23, 2019 |

Remember that Labour only need a 5% swing to unseat Boris in his own constituency. In 2017 they gained an extra 13% there. Even if you don't think Labour will win an outright majority, this surely must seem both achievable and potentially hilarious.

I remember hearing as well that the tories are still drat near bankrupt after May's last attempt at crushing the saboteurs, and have lost most of their big supporters because the remainer-leaning supporters don't want to pay for the leavers and vice versa. So once they have to at least pretend not to spend government cash on campaigning we should see the Labour message taking over a little more. The problem is that in the delay before the GE the Tories and right wing press have done a really good job of poisoning Corbyn's image so that people refuse to listen to the bad antisemitic socialist in case his magic words trick people into brexiting in a nandos or whatever. Obviously the way around this is to talk to moderates starting with a combination of (a) Things are already really bad under the tories and (b) did you know Labour policy is actually blah blah blah as it pertains to whatever issues they agree are bad. Also pick your battles - I don't talk to my gammon father-in-law at all about this because he's an angry, leave.eu reposting twat who just likes to shout about immigrants and gets punchy whenever he feels threatened. My mam & dad though have been fairly nationalised by my brother and I just explaining things as patiently as we can, and happily spread the good word of Corbyn to any of their friends who start spouting conservative talking points. There is hope, comrades. Captain Fargle posted:Boris lost a vote that he needed in order to get Brexit done by the 31st. Once the extension's been granted, Corbyn calls for VONC. In what the papers retcon as an act of strategic genius, Johnson airily says that it's not appropriate to dither and delay with an election now that the withdrawal bill is moving forward. Cons whip abstain - VONC fails. Britain is swallowed by the sea.

Trying to predict the outcome of an election campaign is a fools game. May went into hers with a 20+ point lead and some of the best popularity ratings ever. Plus Labour actually has an HQ working for the party this time. Not to mention Boris apparently wants lots of head-to-head debate, and he's going to come off as loving crap next to Corbyn.

Hmm, you've got to consider the audiences rather than any pretense of objective ability here. Boris is quite willing to bully, interupt and generally monster an event given the chance so unless there's significant time where they can't talk over each other (as in they aren't even in the same room, nevermind whether they're supposed to or not) then Boris is just going to interupt Corbyn during any section where hes making a decent point to own the libs even if he just exclaims nonsense and that'll play to his base because it's showing dominance and control while stopping Corbyn effectively communicating to his base or making points to others. Corbyn would need to aggressively defend himself, not just his platform, which is not something I've really seen him do on stage.

Also worth noting that Boris is PM now and that'll give him a bump in his constituency - I'm willing to say unseating him is basically unachievable (but limiting his majority is still worthwhile)

The advice given to migrants (like me) is that you should register for a proxy vote rather than postal as the forms won't be sent in time. Looking forward to making my very Conservative father vote directly for the Labour candidate for Islington North in the inevitable GE.
