The Cheshire Cat posted:I expect they'll have a few bookmarks since people actually did use them in CK2, unlike EU4, but I'm pretty sure they've said they're never going to do the whole "pick any date to start on" thing again. I would assume so, because the trailer had William the Conqeror in it and if you start at 867 in CK2, by 1066 continental Europe is just an enormous blob called "Francia", England is run by pagan vikings, and the Normans don't exist.

SlothfulCobra posted:I'd say it fits better in CK2 than it does in EU4, since CK2 is dealing more closely with the people and how their internal power structures work. Feudal christian lords, muslim sultans, orthodox emperors, and pagan tribesmen all have pretty different power structures that involve dealing with people very differently, some of them don't even really jive with Crusader Kings's focus on following a single character and their direct progeny. Is the latest info re: CK2 theocracies still that they are only not playable because the Papacy handles most events in the game?

I assume it's always been a low priority because there's basically no interesting theocracies outside the pope but I think the big obstacle is that the game is based on dynastic succession and obviously for Christian theocracies you can't produce dynastic successors.

I kinda think they should drop that. Or make which character you play as be an option. The dynastic succession mechanic is fun but sometimes I want to just follow a title through its history regardless of family, or follow a family through various bastards and daughters.

That would be cool. There was always a kind of weird dissonance I would feel with CK2 where you would often be in an antagonistic relationship with hiers or family members and working to limit their power, and then suddenly you are playing as them and have to suffer the negative effects of your own past actions. It can be unsatisfying.

It's also part of the charm of CK too, though. Actually it could be as simple as making the heirs to titles different from the "next player character" heir. Like maybe I've set up the Kingdom to pass smoothly to my legitimate son Prince Fancypants von Fucksburg, but am more interested in playing my bastard who has somehow become count of Algiers. fuf posted:That would be cool. To me, this is exactly why CK is interesting. You can't just focus on short-term stability; you always need to take succession into account. Of course, sometimes it's fun to follow a branch of the family instead. The events in CK2 that make it possible to switch to a cadet branch when winning a crusade make that possible, but I suppose it could be made more general.

Women's rights in the Nordic culture were better than in most of the rest of Europe at the time. They had their own property that they would take with them after a divorce. Their position worsened after Christianity arrived.
