Crowbcat pretty clearly isn't one guy which becomes evident in the funny, well-edited cascade to failure videos of Evolve, Lawbreakers and Andromeda vs. the lame unfunny side-by-side comparison ones.

If you want to talk about fixing the tech industry you don't have to make a game about it, I can explain it in a tweet lol. Like it's so obvious that it sucks and what needs to be fixed that Ubisoft was able to make a game about it lmao Eliza makes a map of exactly how the tech industry is hosed up and then demands that you make your own decisions. It does it in a way that only a game could. Eliza loving owns.

Verviticus posted:he only had one video up as of a week or so ago, he's probably just doing this as a passion thing and seeing how far that takes him before committing to it this could be the case, but the main thing that makes me think otherwise is the general progression of other youtubers' videos vs his. almost all the review channels i post or have mentioned either started as just some 30 second gameplay clips they thought were cool before doing reviews (see sseth), or with reviews that were noticeably more amateurish in production and very self-aware (and often self-deprecating as well [see cv-11, mandalore, noah g]), both at the time and in retrospect, and these things give you an impression of not only the game but also the person reviewing it. you can see their journey from what they were into what they currently are, and this humanizes them. facefullofeyes seems to have circumvented this "progression" (for lack of a better word) by simply starting at the top, requesting no money and showing no face. anyone can tell you that there is an allure in anonymity. his first video was long, in-depth, very well-written and edited, the second just as much so (except in length), and anything he posts outside of the video is answering questions about other games, thanking people for compliments, or talking about / teasing what games he will do next. he's started at the polar opposite end of the spectrum from the others. this may change in the future, but at the moment one could say that he barely exists outside of his reviews, and this stands in stark contrast to ppl like mandalore, sseth, noah g, cv-11, and others who take time to "humanize" themselves for their audience with dialogue or events in their videos that take place outside of the videogame theyre reviewing. e.g., the interruptions by cancer mouse and the robots with cv-11, or how superbunnyhop and noah G are willing to appear in front of the camera for long periods of time and talk about how past events in their lives shaped their current opinions. the latter two reviewers are even willing to put their real full names on their work. none of this is to say that ffoe is a lesser critic than the others, far from it. it's just a very, very different style in an internet era where most people are willing to put a LOT of their personal life out there, especially if doing so can help them make money. in a world where patreon, indiegogo, kickstarter, gofundme and other such sites exist, it seems almost anachronistic not to use them. i don't disparage either approach, both are equally valid imo, everyone has to eat and have a safe place to sleep. i simply find it v interesting and intriguing how something like videogame reviews, something that seemed so rote, basic, and functional only 10 years ago, has almost evolved into its own form of entertainment with its own subgenres and nuances. none of this is anything i'd want to argue about, but very much like to discuss. anyway, here's a video by kreal about a game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvCfcAObOyw sea of losers fucked around with this message at 01:01 on Oct 2, 2019 |

great Errant Signal vid about max payne 3, imo. it's a good compliment to raycevick's video on max payne, to noah g's, and it was made more than 7 years ago. the latter isnt a reliable metric of how good a video/author is, but since i felt this review to be good it is interesting to observe his progression into different things/styles as the years go on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lx5MZfpQIEk VVV i appreciate you mentioning the guy and recommending a video, but i think it would be helpful if you linked to it in yr post. otherwise thank u sea of losers fucked around with this message at 01:03 on Oct 3, 2019 |

Personally I'm a fan of Larry Bundy or "Guru Larry". Dude just seems to enjoy digging up all this world history about video games and even manages to come up with some new info on stories that are already well known. His videos come up looking like the usual top blank lists of clickbait slop but they have almost all been fairly interesting to watch. So good that watchmojo has been caught plagiarizing his work multiple times. If you want a good example of the investigative stuff he does, check out his Drivergate video.

Okay so this is quite the rabbit hole. It's not a good video, but it is entertaining in a weird way. Youtuber/Streamer/Content-creator DSP is playing Metal Gear Solid 3 and he bumbles his way through the game in the worst possible way. He fights The End with a shotgun. He tries to kill The Boss with a sniper. Up is down, left is right, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria. Why I still recommend it as a video you should see; as most of us gamers will know, gaming can be frustrating. I've rage quit some games. I've blamed things like bad controls when it was in fact my lack of skill. But, I will never ever be as bad as this grown man who gets paid to play video games all day long. I will never suck this bad and cry as much as DSP does. It's strangely comforting to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSH39aiTx2A (If you're wondering about the quality - DSP didn't think to directly capture video until much later than the average Youtuber, instead he points a camera at his tv to capture his footage)

^^^ do you have "embedded html5 videos" or something enabled in your somethingawful profile? most links (or at least my posts) should show up not as links, but as a youtube player on the page itself, which tends to have the video title and the name/avatar of the channel on it. regardless tho i'll try to give at least a lil bit of descriptive text in future just found this channel called firstfive. he plays 5 hours of what is usually an indie / quite unknown title and gives you a review based on it. he explicitly states in his intro that he reviews games based on whether or not theyre worth your time, and not by whether or not theyre worth your money, which is a review philosophy i wholly endorse. if the devs of STALKER: Anomaly said that i'd have to pay $60 to get more updates from them i'd honestly probably do it, because that series of games is probably the one that i've sunk the most time into (probably into the thousands of hours) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExjSZ7R1MFM sea of losers fucked around with this message at 02:27 on Oct 7, 2019 |

sseth has a contract to stream live for dlive.tv every sunday for two hours at 330am EST. replays can be found there too http://dlive.tv/ssethtzeentach during last night's stream he revealed he has an entire script for the game "oxygen not included" written after the devs asked him to review it, but their publisher or someone higher up ended up watching his content before he released the video but after he'd been contracted to write the script, so they just pulled out of it completely and left him high and dry. hopefully he gets to make the video anyway and put the names of the usurpers on blast. he was actually doing the latter during the stream edit: he's been running into problems with dlive tho because there are no word replacement bots like on twitch and like half of his watchers keep spouting "n****r" over and over again and dlive is like "we're gonna need you to stop that." such are the woes of having a 4chan fanbase sea of losers fucked around with this message at 20:09 on Oct 20, 2019 |

scg is my favorite "underground" youtube game dude, but anyone who looks at my post history could probably have deduced that already. i've seen several different people talk about far cry 2 in a variety of interesting ways and i STILL want to see the part 2 of his review on it, that's how unique i find his perspective. also the part in dead rising where he's like "let's talk about the psychopaths" is great because he plays video clips of psychopath cutscenes then casually slips that clip of sam hyde firing a gun in there without batting an eye haha

Retro Pals is one of the best kept secrets in streaming, they do all their stuff on original hardware (when applicable) and are genuinely knowledgeable and find stuff I've never even heard of on the reg, they even know a little Japanese so they play a lot of untranslated weird stuff, and also branch out into oddities like bootleg multicarts and failed plug-n-plays and unreleased games and dead platforms like the Xbox Live Indie Arcade and Ouya. They're a good mix between documenting the archaic and laughing at the absurd, and they post a lot of best ofs on their YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFtroDFE6yY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeeDWzdkRl8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iTBePwkpTU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1XffqodO-Y Also sometimes they just post raw assets from games they cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8MIIrtWHRU

The DR1 vs. DR4 one blew me away. Crowbcat included a "we were kings and poo poo" joke in an E3 video that depicted the Assassin's Creed game set in Egypt. For those unaware of nazi call signs, we were kings is an unfunny meme that is usually spelled poorly, that's ENTIRE purpose is to mock black people for being proud of Africa's history of city-states and empires that are ignored by most of the world due to the effects of colonialism, and literally you only see it made by nazis who are unfunny dipshits or unfunny dipshits likely to turn out to be actual nazis when given time. Crowbcat's NEVER apologized for it and probably contains no remorse for it, he(?)'s removed other videos in the past that were a little too controversial for one reason or another, such as an lovely VR video that was removed because it misrepresented some of the people who were in the video's views, but not the one that FLAT OUT uses lovely racist call signs. Crowbcat is bad for many reasons, but racism for me is enough to say this pretentious idiot doesn't deserve a SINGLE one of their supporters.

Nobody unironically says "we were kings" in the racist way the meme does. Nobody at the E3 presentation said it. Nobody at the audience said it. Nobody in the game said it. The video was showing a video of one of that game's cutscenes and just randomly inserted the voice clip that is clearly a racist white rear end saying the line in a mock black voice. If it was done to poo poo on racists then it would've featured comments of racist dumbasses whining about the game being in Egypt. But it was IIRC sourced directly from a racist video made by some thin skulled racist who made it before said game was even announced. crowbcat is thus racist. gently caress 'em.
