Also this is one choice use of shivers check.

Important question: If you do that sequence after Kim gets shot can you get Cuno to dance with you?

That is the reason why "modern" narrative oriented rpgs (the kind that Disco Elysium is aping) are extremely rad

Does gathering evidence about Evrarts drug plans and reporting it (as well as his takeover plans) to Joyce actually change anything?

Has anyone actually tried to play "Honorably"?
The honor points seems to be an Authority thing, so I guess that's the skill to go for. Might try that for a third playthrough.

it has surprisingly little to do with authority or esprit-de-corps

it's basically just the various opportunities you are given throughout the game to stake something on your honour, and whether you followed through

Whether you promised to only ask Lena about ONE cryptid, and if you follow through,
Whether you promise not to let Joyce's money influence you, because that wouldn't be honourable,
Whether you follow through on Evrart's tasks or whether you subvert him

etc.

There's a steam guide about it if you want to be spoiled about the list

I'm actually glad to hear that, 'cause I spent all game doggedly pursuing all cryptid info and quests and internalizing the relevant thought for no reason other than roleplaying, so getting a payoff like that was a cool surprise which would've been a bit cheapened if was an unmissable scene.

But, it's definitely a game made for at least a couple of playthroughs anyway; I can see how missing things like that would suck if it was twice as long and with less replayability.

There's also just something meaningful about how sometimes you have long odds but make it anyway. Shooting that bastard Kortenar in the face wouldn't have been as tense if my Harry didn't have poo poo aim and hadn't had to pull through in a crisis.

haha my playthrough is going the exact opposite direction, 'cause my build specializes in motorics and I missed both shots.

Which now turned my character's arc into giving his all trying to "save" at least one person in that drat district. Namely, Cuno.

One of the devblogs for the game states that the world will end in 28 years after the events of the game proper. Considering the Pale and how it's eating reality at an indeterminate rate is that something that's already established in the novel set in the same universe?

You just do what any normal cop would do. You, without cause, cut the lock off of an apartment door, enter with no good cause, look around, and steal things from some random person's apartment who isn't doing anything wrong as far as you know.

Sorry, you're hosed, at least I think. Apparently if you have a certain thought...hobocops can sleep on benches, but I can't confirm this. It's the only real bad "welp, no proceeding from here" point of friction in the game. Roll back to an earlier save and do some of the following:

- Grovel at Joyce, who can loan you enough for a full day
- Pass the rhetoric check at the lowered, empty storage container
- Take Everart's money
- Find the bag (IIRC it's towards the ball players, SW of the bookstore) and do some tare collecting
- Pawn off postcards

Once you hit day 3, you can live under a boat across the water lock.

Does shivers ever give you usable info in regular conversations? I'm 5 1 1 5 and though I got like 4 shivers from clothing and thoughts it mainly just gives me cinematic descriptions of the city. I want to do a shivers heavy play though next since I like how somber its descriptions are, but it seems to almost never come up in conversations.

it rarely comes up in conversations, but it literally telegraphs the (end game)phasmid's existence on like, day 2, by talking about 'long spindly arms' opening up the buoy with klassje's identification in it. it predicts a lot but you just dont have the means to understand it until the second playthrough

i did 4422 spec perception and i was happy as a clam for my first playthrough. a lot of people here seem totally happy with going wacky stuff too though, i feel like the skill point system is so lenient that you can easily cover all the skill checks if you're prudent about it, no matter what you do

Even spread will give you a better chance of managing whatever the game throws at you, but specializing will give you a more "unique" (and often funnier) playthrough. I'd honestly recommend specializing, as I found it more entertaining.

Some of the whackier skill checks and comments will only show with sufficiently high skill investments, so you might miss out on some of it with an average build.

I've been thinking about DE and politics.

I wonder if many people don't... necessarily understand the political thoughts. Vague mechanics spoilers:

The political thoughts are basically "I'm a guy who is a literal amnesiac who knows nothing about this world but I think I can solve it all by strict employment of an Ideology - an ideology I literally just learned about five minutes ago". They aren't actually 'communism' or leftism, they are 'I am the Last Communist'.

Therefore they are all kinda bad, and therefore you maybe shouldn't pick any of them... if you are a boring sorry cop like me anyway.

I mean, the political 'sides' you are picking have the implicit idea that "I'm a white guy with a gun a badge a lot of privilege and it should be my choice and my opinion that matters", and I think what the narrative wants you to do, really, is to acknowledge what others are doing and want. The ways of achieving, say, socialism, that centre themselves on other people than your own egotism are much more promising, and I think it's that sort of position that the story really subtly pushes you towards.

It's not actually saying "all sides suck, including choosing no side"

yeah, if you ever see someone complaining about the political thoughts of the main character, they're a loving dumb dumb whose opinions shouldnt be considered because they're too stupid to understand the first and most important thing about the story, that the main character is an amnesiac dipshit who doesnt even know the definition of the word "book"
