That's the exact type of complete marginal poo poo that replay shouldn't be used for.

There should be a real time timer. If an official doesn't see conclusive evidence either way in a minute, let the call on the field stand. Even let the challenging team keep their timeout if it's a 50/50. The rules were designed to be officiated by people on a field, not people doing Zapruder analysis.

entirely this, this is a good idea and a good post

Setter is Better.
really, i barely want to see it at all, cricket is the sport which comes the closest to that system (a borderline hawk-eye ball-tracking call results in the original call standing, but the challenging team retaining their review) but even that's caused review usage to become part of the strategy of the sport, and arguably affect calls (e.g. umpires calling close calls against teams with replays remaining, because gently caress it, if I screw up they'll challenge/being more lenient toward teams with no replays left), which is something I always hate about review rules.

basically, it's unavoidable to some extent, but changing the nature of the officiating will change the tactics of the sport, and that's something which shouldn't be taken lightly unless you think teams gaming the officiating is compelling viewing.

see also: soccer, where because of the 2-yellow-card = red card rule, you get situations where officials will treat carded players with kid gloves, because they don't want to eject someone over something which would ordinarily be a yellow

We all know that “stick to sports” means “don’t criticize conservative politics”, but wouldn’t the overall mandate (assuming they actually enforce it) eliminate the majority of Drew Magary’s columns? The funbag, Williams Sonoma catalogue, the writing about his personal life.

That’s some of the more popular stuff they have, going off the fact that Magary has his own byline on the site.

Deadspin is about as successful as it's ever been in terms of page views in large part because of the non sport stuff but David Roth (one of like four people on the internet who can actually write about Donald Trump well) saying mean things about the president makes my rich friends mad :(

Apropos of nothing else, this is a bit weird:

quote:

Mattress Mack is off oxygen and walking the hospital corridors like he will survive
(the link goes to an article about him betting big on the Astros, several millions)

I guess they don't know he was placing all these large bets on the Astros as a hedge against his business deal where he LOSES money if the Astros win the WS, because he is going to refund a bunch of furniture purchases if/when that happens. He's probably leveraged in such a way at this point that he doesn't care either way from a financial standpoint. He does want them to win on a personal level though, he's a Houston icon/fixture/pretty good dude for the community.

In addition to being super scummy pulling the post is a violation of the GMG union contract, so things are really going great

Jordan's Furniture in Massachusetts did the same giveaway with the Red Sox. They aren't at risk for losing money, they buy an insurance policy against paying it out that costs far far less than if it cashes in, and they get advertising and sales either way.
