Personally I think if the cams were going to turn to cheese they would have done it somewhere in the previous 34,000 miles. The real issue with the older Interceptors is maintenance and replacement parts availability. They are cool bikes and that look has aged really well, but I wouldn't want one if I depended on it to get to work or something. The cam story Mewse posted is a bit of interesting manufacturing/moto history and is a good read. It's the reason why the later gear driven V4's were so good. So according to this if you find an old Honda V4 with higher mileage it’s probably gonna be fine. Only low mileage examples are really a risk

More to the point though that you will see many VF500's with 30k+ miles on them. It's just as likely that after 35 years any component is going to give you a problem, and if the motor blows up was it due to chocolate cams or something else? Only a teardown will tell. Depends on where you are I think. Uncle Henry’s (weekly printed classified ads) and craigslist are still going pretty strong here in Maine especially among the older crowd, which is basically the entire state.

Its about 1000 euros less than Ive seen them usually go for, might just be trying to get rid of it fast because of autumn. I should go check it out but on the other hand I shouldnt buy a bike before spring because I dont at the moment have a place to store it for the winter now that my dad has two bikes in the garage already. I just cant stop looking whats for sale.

(all prices converted to USD). I think the USA gets boned in terms of regional pricing when it comes to some motorcycle brands. On the flipside the new Mustang costs 50% more in Aus/NZ because...well tbh they probably know only rich boomers will buy them. I think Husqvarna is trying to target the "cool tech-bro" in SF or NYC with their modern/neo/cafe-racer image and take then for all they can, hence the inflated pricing.

My bad, I must not be comparing apples to apples. The 701 is indeed I. The $12k range in the US. The 401 closer to $6300. But yeah, I love the looks of the 701 vit/svart/sm, but maybe I'll wait and try and get a cheapo used one from a techbro.

Off road air cooled bikes tend to have looser tolerances to deal with a lack of airflow.
