So I just got a switch lite (probably the wrong choice, but I don't care about playing on tv and wanted the slightly smaller console), and am also looking for game recommendations.

Have now: BotW and Fire Emblem 3 Houses. I've preordered Pokemon Shield, and already completely beat Witcher 3 on PC.

Thinking of picking up Disgaea 5, but Fire Emblem scratched a lot of that RPG style itch. What are some other 'must haves' for the switch? I beat the original DQ IX, and not too interested in replaying it either.

i played through it once with the default characters in local co-op mode. all the story scenes are kind of embarrassing and seem like they were written by/for people who attend anime conventions. that said, the gameplay is good - - particularly the combo system, and especially when you're trying to figure out how to coreograph a kill combo with your co-op partner. took us about 5 hours to clear, and beating the game once unlocks 2 more characters. I think it was 30 bucks, and that's fair if you have someone to play with. if I were planning on playing it solo I don't think it would be as good

I see that thanks.

There's an alternative movement option in the options menu, you might give that a try. It's not night and day, but it does make some tweaks.

I enjoyed it, but it was pretty unmemorable to me. Very cute and entertaining, but it’s just a remake. I don’t think there’s any need to pay full price if you have other stuff in your backlog.

The thing that gets me is at the very end there's one more little thing where they (actual spoilers for post-act 3 final boss) give the Sword to the Timekeeper, who turns back into Serenica and then goes back in time

like what the gently caress, even if it's just going back to die next to her beloved Original Luminary Do Not Steal that's something you shouldn't mess with

Never played the original Link's Awakening and thought the remake was good fun, but there were several times that the game design reminded me that it was, in fact, a 25 year old game at its core. ALBW is much more accessible and I think I still prefer it over the LA remake, but LA does have a certain unique charm to it that I really liked. Would highly recommend it to any Zelda fan, but will not be calling it GOTY.

Labyrinth of Refrain has the same (insane) level of depth that Disgaea 5 does (same team and all), though in a dungeon crawler context. If you like exploring tight corridors, it'll be right up your alley!
