I'm not sure any of that plays in to TLJ at all, he's just "a dude" as far as I can remember. If you just watched episode 8 (and 9 I'm predicting), you would have no idea he was anything other than "a dude in the rebel Alliance"

It's almost amazing how completely they've expunged any interest or tension from every possible relationship in the movie. Watching Finn fight Phasma was one of the emptiest, most sterile spectacles I could imagine.

Phasma is such a weird character. I think she's a joke about boba fett getting owned easily by han solo but it's bizarre to carry that through in to 2 new star wars movies.

Seeing her come back in TLJ was hilarious. Her role in TFA was clearly edited down to be near non existent, but then to have this character that does nothing come back to fight "a dude" in he sequel and have it end up the exact same way. I'm going to assume Rian Johnson did that on purpose and I love it.

That's every character though and that's fine because star wars has never been anything else. I just find how both films have handled her to be really weird.

Phasma doesn't do anything because the studio was worried people would accuse a female villain of being a negative portrayal of women if she actually did something bad.

It's pretty funny that when you take out external factors like "scary shiny armor" and "played by Brienne" the only thing Phasma actually does before getting clowned twice is get on Finn's case about uniform regulations

Boba Fett was a minimal character, but even his few lines with Vader managed to sketch out a personality, a sense of where they stood with each other. Phasma gets *nothing*. I would be fine if a superior once said something like, "Dammit, Phasma, you can't let the defection of one lousy stormtrooper interfere with your duties like this". I could get something from that. Just anything.

It's a much better look having one of the female characters never show their face and have any scene where they do accomplish anything cut down to nothing. The only thing she ever does in the movies is to serve as a can for one of the male characters to kick.

One huge dropped thread is that everyone he merrily blasts is a potential Finn. Tens or hundreds of thousands of fellow slaves he should have some interest in saving. Finn running an underground railroad deprogramming former stormtroopers would be a legitimately cool angle they seem to have zero interest in exploring.

In defter hands having a queen ruling Pyke and a Queen in the North would feel like a counterbalance to that, but everything was so rushed and hamfisted that it carries no weight.

It's like the long running beloved D&D campaign you had in college didn't have enough time to finish playing out and the DM sent a 3 paragraph email to everyone explaining the rest of the plot he had planned.

Jyn was going to be more of a radical terrorist type (hence why in the trailers she is in handcuffs when she's taken to the Rebel leaders) but it seems like Disney didn't think that was a good idea.

While this totally happens with every massive iconic billion dollar movie franchise in existence, it's really stupid that all of the Disney Star Wars movies have suffered heavily from executive meddling. Especially Rogue One, where Disney top brass was supposedly extremely unhappy with Gareth Edwards and how the film turned out and ordered extensive reshoots and edits. Which is why Rogue One, while a very solid, highly entertaining movie, feels bizarrely disjointed sometimes. Shockingly, you can't just bring in someone else to reshoot and edit your movie that late in production and somehow hope it works out.

This was one of the weirdest and most incongruous parts of a movie defined by its weird incongruity. I swear it's gotta be vestigial poo poo from a "spy aboard" plot overwritten for Wild Casino Hijinx. Like the inexplicable refusal to cooperate with one another that Poe and Holdo display throughout would make a million times more sense if the tracking is thought to be happening from something like Leia's device and the two of them are harboring mutual suspicion, because idk why you'd even introduce the loving Rey tracker otherwise. It's not even required as a plot contrivance. She has a psychic connection to Kylo, she could just ask him for directions

I've been getting into later books and imo I think they get harder to adapt the further you go. Consider Phlebas (Heist/action movie with scifi background) and Player of Games (Yugioh but more autistic) would be so easy to adapt!

i know this is nit-picky, but one of the most jarring scenes for me in the last jedi was finn and rose's execution. the blade is falling on their necks, phasma right next to them with a couple dozen storm troopers and then the explosion happens. next thing you know there's hardly anyone around them and phasma is on the other side of the hanger doing just fine and coming at them with more storm troopers. it's just such a unbelievable changing of the space and conditions. like two distantly related versions of the same concept but from different iterations. must have been a reshoot thing

Indeed there is a deleted scene where it plays out differently, they are on a raised platform with a handful of Stormtroopers and Finn outs Phasma's self-preserving cowardace in the previous film, staying the troopers from shooting him and ready to turn on her.

Apple TV is apparently in the process of developing it after HBO passed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_(TV_series)

I have no idea how you would make it watchable, or longer than 3 episodes a book (assuming they even stayed semi-close to the source materials). Honestly, if you were even half-considering doing an adaptation of the trilogy (or all 9 Asimov novels) you'd have to make a pretty important decision.

1. We're staying 100% true to the source materials.
-We're making 3-5 hours of content per novel
-10% of our audience will continue to watch after the third episode

2. We're going the "HBO-Route"
-We're sticking to about 40-60% of the source materials, but lots of deviations/additions
-10,000X more sex and violence
-Now with inter-character drama!
-Somehow spend an entire episode on the "Naked Asian planet".
-Real fans are somewhat pissed, but still watch, much more mass appeal.

3. We're going the iRobot Route
-Aw hell naw!
-Fans are pissed it's only 2-3% based on the source materials.
-Doesn't really appeal to anyone.
