And the mercy seat is awaiting,
And I think my head is burning,
And in a way I'm yearning,
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth,
And anyway I told the truth,
And I'm not afraid to die.

Jesus gently caress you’re dense.

Policies like this are designed to have this effect, it’s not a negative side effect. Issues you (not you) consider problematic are deemed political and thus banned. Things like BHPs how fuckin good is mining and jobs and mining will sail directly through, and that’s the entire point.

You may consider it to be the same umbrella and heavily political (it is), there’s no way twitters policy does.

You're also missing the point that Climate Change is only a political issue because RWNJs have made it one. It's a scientific problem to be solved, and an existential threat to society if it's not.

By that argument, the right can politicise anything they want to and twitter can ban ads for it.

Guardian Au posted:

Joyce ultimately supported the $80m deal after he was convinced it would have minimal impact on the region.

The documents underscore that the government knew that the water they were about to purchase would only be available intermittently, and that the real object of the purchase was to meet the targets for water recovery under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan on paper only.

“The purchase of these entitlement would marginally constrain production [on the two properties] in higher flow years, but would have virtually no impact under low-flow years when the region is more vulnerable,” the department told the minister.

In other words, there would be no water available under the purchased licences when there was lower rainfall and the two properties would continue to be able to take water from the river under its other higher security licences.

For 80 million dollars I can also give you no water.

rio tinto were also one of the foundational members behind undermining action on climate change back in 1989

quote:

Through industry documents and political allies, the public discussion was turned to a focus on costs and jobs, and also free market and ‘choice’ ideology. The evidence indicates that this counter argument gathered steam in response to Australia’s interim emission reduction target and the recommendations for global action of the 1992 UNFCCC.

How it was framed for the public can be seen from documents produced by CRA on two occasions. (Unpack the acronym CRA and a familiar entity emerges—Riotinto, incorporating Anglo-Australian mining giant Conzinc Riotinto of Australia, CRA). A 1989 CRA report on Australia’s proposal to lower emissions by 20 per cent established some now familiar themes: it was alleged that there would be little global effect and it would damage Australia’s economy; holding down demand (through efficiency measures) would be costly and lead to unwelcome lifestyle changes; battling climate change is just fear of change; and, warming trends may benefit some agriculture (Dixon & McLennan 1989).

A 1992 CRA report in the Mining Review warned of severe economic consequences if Australia implemented the UNFCCC commitments to lower emissions. The article rests on the ‘us and them’ scenario (Carruthers 1992). A frame that would become familiar was anti-UN and anti-European rhetoric claiming foreign forces were trying to tell Australia what do, and were damaging Australia’s national interest. The United Nations and Europe were seen as the main drivers for binding emission targets.

And in that turn against him, the next leader is a firebrand, anti-government attack dog in the mould of Tony Abbott only not a fundie, homophobic, nepotistic racist, (Tony was a fuckwit of the highest regard, but as an opposition leader he was top-notch.)
