It's the science of phrenology!

Though up until recently, the orthodox D&D position was based on the science of history (dialectical materialism). Superstitions flourishing under a revisionist regime is to be expected, I suppose.

I yearn for the days when we have a sunshine policy so we can better see who reported on us during the dark purges of SA's past.

I mean... one uses the position of stars and poo poo to try and assign character traits across centuries, and one refers to the socio-technological conditions on earth which affect the experience of people growing up, and even then it's not necessarily proscriptive

They really don't care about reality. How do you debate people that fundamentally disagree about what reality is? It just seems like we are talking past each other and there is no way to convince these folks that they may be wrong and to follow the evidence. Any ideas on how to deal with this? I'd like to be able to talk to my family about politics at some point but its so frustrating when we can't agree on what is real.

I'm not joking or being a dick when I say you almost certainly can't. Your diagnosis is correct - the realities are incommensurable, and even if you find some common ground you came to it from different places and you'll be going to different places afterwards.

These people can't be reasoned with or converted, only defeated. It sucks when it's people close to you, but the only way I've found to deal with is to never talk about politics with them, and if they try to anyway (they will) remove yourself from the situation. Trump defends border wall design after report smugglers are sawing through it

After years of touting the impenetrability of a border wall, President Donald Trump said Saturday that "you can cut through any wall" as reports surfaced of smugglers sawing through newly erected barriers with readily available power tools.

"We have a very powerful wall. But no matter how powerful, you can cut through anything, in all fairness. But we have a lot of people watching. You know cutting — cutting is one thing, but it's easily fixed. One of the reasons we did it the way we did it, it's very easily fixed. You put the chunk back in,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

Considering who normally fills the front rows of major fights, being the most unliked person in the building is a frankly extraordinary act.

The article says he was declared brain dead and then had the ventilator removed. Brain dead isn't some colloquial term, it's actually just "death by neurologic criteria" and is the same as "dead". That patient died. They removed the ventilator because the patient was dead, despite having a heartbeat. The article is conflating, whether accidentally or deliberately, the idea that "brain dead" means something like a persistent vegetative state or coma, which it doesn't. There's a lot of strict criteria that goes into a declaration of death by neurologic diagnosis.

So yeah, there's still some shittiness with ICE in general here, and the refusal of a visa, but it wasn't like the hospital staff just removed someone from life support. The patient was legally dead.

Is the new president of Mexico some right wing authoritarian shithead or does he still take Nieto criticizing him personally and the new guy not being him and possibly not having criticized him makes him automatically "great"? I geel like it could be either, like its just weird to see Trump say someone is great outside of those two scenarios.
