taqueso posted:Some people actually live in banking-deserts and might need this kind of thing which is pretty awful on a couple different levels. There was several years of my life where it would have legit been useful to be able to be mailed a roll of quarters for a small fee for exactly this reason. If I needed to actually physically visit a bank, I would have to leave work early because if I wanted a bank that was open after 5:00, I would have had to give up my credit union and open an account with Wells Fargo. Hooray for small town living. Like, not saying they have a viable business model or anything, just that a lot of folks don't realize that banking in small towns today really isn't any different than it was decades ago, except now it's a debit card instead of a checkbook.

mooyashi posted:what loving laundromat doesnt have a quarter machine A lot of them don't, you have to talk to an attendant, who might not have enough quarters for you, or even be present in the establishment when you need them, or the change maschine is empty, etc. There's nothing really stopping someone from taking all the quarters they can and screwing over anyone who needs change before the machine is filled up, etc

mooyashi posted:what loving laundromat doesnt have a quarter machine the machines at my last apt complex didnt it was only abt 1/2 mile from a handful of gas stations and a couple banks, which wasn't bad, but just enough to be irritating worse when the gas stations were low on quarters and salty about it after getting a rush of laundry-doers

https://twitter.com/NATO/status/884769177906675712 Incase you're wondering who the Forest Brothers are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_Brothers quote:The guerrilla operations in Estonia and Latvia had some basis in Adolf Hitler's authorization of a full withdrawal from Estonia in mid-September 1944 – he allowed any soldiers of his Estonian forces, primarily the 20th Waffen-SS Division (1st Estonian), who wished to stay and defend their homes to do so[citation needed] – and in the fate of Army Group Courland, among the last of Hitler's forces to surrender after it became trapped in the Courland Pocket on the Courland Peninsula in 1945. Many Estonian and Latvian soldiers, and a few Germans, evaded capture and fought as Forest Brothers in the countryside for years after the war. Others, such as Alfons Rebane and Alfrēds Riekstiņš escaped to the United Kingdom and Sweden and participated in Allied intelligence operations in aid of the Forest Brothers. Bonus quote:In a 2001 lecture in Tallinn, U.S. Senator John McCain acknowledged the Estonian Forest Brothers and their efforts.

mooyashi posted:what loving laundromat doesnt have a quarter machine The lovely one in the town I used to live in. As for asking an attendant, well, I never saw a single person actually work there in the years I used the place. The place was clean and machines that were broken got fixed, so I'm assuming it wasn't just a money laundering front, but yeah, no way to get quarters if you didn't bring them. Real fun times when you do your quarter math wrong and are short on the last dryer run. So loving glad I have a washer and dryer in my place now.
