Luckily, I teach kids just out of high school and since I play music to help them concentrate on their schoolwork I discovered Florence and the Machine among others. Googling lyrics in a goon's avatar led me to Arcade Fire which I love, too.

I was in front of a TV playing a normal cable station for the first time in a year last week and every commercial break there was an Amazon commercial with warehouse workers just talking about how great their jobs were. Dystopian as gently caress.

There's a Netflix mini-doc on Bill Gates that I found pretty interesting. He seems like a super smart/bookish dude (ditto his wife) who wants to tackle big problems. Like for example he reads a tote bag's worth of dense economics material in the span of a week, and that's pretty standard. Despite all his efforts he will always be hilariously out of touch by virtue of sitting on a gigantic pile of money with the support of the organizations he has built. It doesn't matter what kind of roots you came from- wasn't it the Starbucks founder who grew up in public housing who is now all about bootstraps? At that point you are in a bubble, and I'm not sure if you can extricate yourself or really empathize on the same level as someone who pays bills every month.

My favorite Act of Bezos is when he did an interview where he literally said he had no idea what to do with his vast riches amidst news of the poor benefits his company offered and the awful conditions his workers toiled in. “The only way that I can see to deploy this much financial resource is by converting my Amazon winnings into space travel,” Bezos said. “That is basically it.” https://bgr.com/2018/05/02/jeff-bezos-worth-fortune-philanthropy-charities/ Tiny Timbs fucked around with this message at 14:43 on Nov 7, 2019 |

I've always thought this is a dumb as hell strategy. Reconciliation can only be used once per budget cycle, and if you gently caress it up, it's gone (See the Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare in 2017). The left's entire theory of action is that they need to prove to the voters the left will do for them what the Republicans won't, but you need to go FDR's Hundred Days for that poo poo, with constant coverage of new bills that will help people's lives. One bill a year is just not going to cut it.
