I've had a feeling for a while that Scottish Labour couldn't be fixed until after a Labour election victory. Now that that's like a month off I feel even more confident :toot:

That's an extremely generous way to phrase overt white supremacy. Trump didn't gain any of the low-income votes Clinton lost (taking population growth into account, he actually lost voters) - he made up the difference with economically secure but racially anxious middle-income white people. Looking at the Rust Belt results is really fascinating - both parties lost votes due to lack of enthusiasm and new voter ID laws, but the Democrats lost more (for reasons that should be obvious if you know anything about American voter ID laws), and Clinton also lost a significant amount of votes to... Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate (and I don't know what the gently caress that says about American voters).

Forgive me for constantly bringing this up, but I do get annoyed when people talk about Trump's appeals to the working class like anyone noticed or cared about them.

Overt white supremacy is a clear, easy-to-understand vision of the future to white supremacists. Now I'm not saying the people who fled the inner cities of America for the suburbs in the 70s and their descendants are white supremacists, but they're loving white supremacists.

edit nope think i was wrong but seems:

As a medical treatment, cocaine is used during procedures involving the upper respiratory tract. In addition to anesthesia and vasoconstriction of the upper respiratory tract, cocaine also shrinks the mucosa or mucous membranes.2

Cocaine used during medical procedures comes in the form of a topical solution. This cocaine hydrochloride solution comes in three different concentrations: 1%, 4%, or 10%. Because of potential toxicity, usually, only the 1% or 4% solutions are used

iirc it's still used for eye surgery because all the other local anesthetics could damage the surface, although maybe they've got better ones now.

Also freebase cocaine works well for treating arthritis but they shitcanned it because of the negative image that crack got during the epidemic in the US.

Whichever way this election goes the PLP is going to be a better place without so many raging arseholes around and Twatson no longer leaking anything damaging and trying to sabotage the NEC.

News today seems meh for Labour at worst. Lead item was Javid vs McDonnell, with the subtext being 'they both want to borrow and invest, but McDonnell a lot more'. Lots of emphasis on it basically being the same fundamental strategy, which is going to make it hard for the Tories to attack on the economy.

Second item was Austin, yet more claims of antisemitism without a single example brought up. Doubt attacks like that are going to have much effect. At best, it sucks oxygen away from the Tories and makes it seem like they're doing nothing.

On a semi related note to that song I'm experiencing yiddish for the first time as opposed to german and having a lot of fun with the linguistic differences.

Much as I like german as a language I'm beginning to think I might like yiddish better. It seems much more... melodic than german. If I was making up a lanugage for singing in I'm not sure I could come up with one that sounds better. The way the words flow into each other sounds so good. It seems like a language based around how people actually speak.

I don't get why people get all fussy about whether it's a "real language" or not. It's fuckin great whatever it is.

Lucky escape for me!

Neighbour who will be away for election and in Far East asked me if I would do a proxy vote for him but I am moving (not far but to a different polling station).
He wants to vote for the horrendous right wing tory mp we have.
I did indicate I wasn't a supporter but that if I ended up doing it I would honour his wishes. (Ed: for some reason he assumed I was a Welsh Nationalist)

Anyway, I will have moved by the time the proxy permission comes and the landlady would have to open his post to see it and then get it to me.
So we decided he better ask the landlady (who probably votes tory and lives in one of the flats anyway so she'll be at the same polling station as he would be registered).

Not sure who the worst person in today's canvassing was:

A) The student with no political position despite their main issue being education and the diametrically opposed Labour/Tory positions on tuition fees.

B) The Indian who moved here ten years ago, has been specifically helped by the local Labour MP with their immigration paperwork and is worried about service cuts - but might not vote Labour because of their position on Kashmir because India has a right to annex Kashmir to fight terrorism don't you know!

Though writing it out helped make up my mind, it's B by a mile as.A is merely.uninformed while B is actively supporting human rights abuses.
