I'm not really sure what there is even to compare really. Like sure the MGS dude is off his rocker but he releases stuff and has released current stuff.

Oh and he's not fleecing nerds.

i wanted to love metal gear since the ps1 version. i really tried but it does not click with me at all. i have every metal gear sitting on my shelf, i just cant be bothered to play them.
i remember that i played the hell out of “tenchu“ on the ps1 though. which was the other stealth game there was.
i think that i am somehow allergic to all kind of “fluff“ around the gameplay. that got worse with the years. it seems i have one brain-synapse dedicated to detect fluff in games.

*first cutscene plays after 5min of gameplay*
synapse: “FLUUUUUUUFF!!“
*finger automatically reaches out to console's power button*

*playing hotline miami for 1 hour*
that same synapse: “WHOOOHOOO“
*hands grab the controller tighter*

(it is also possible that games that require more than “run“ “jump“ “gun“ “drive“ are too much for me but i absolve myself of that)

If there's anything more important than my ego around, I want it caught and shot now.
Tenchu has very little fluff though, its all action. Its ninja hitman. Hitman is also great for having very little fluff.

Tenchu is pretty jank and hard to go back to though.

agree! i was playing ninja gaiden black on the classic xbox the other day. (60fps, super smooth, still holds up today)
after that i put tenchu in same xbox. (uuuugh...game is still great but the technical aspect not so much)

No idea what non canonical means here, it’s either A* or it’s not. But signed distance fields... SDF is just a stored value of a function which takes a position as an input, and outputs the distance from that position to the nearest part of a shape. Usually used for graphics effects or rendering. But either way ... their work is to make it so that the path finding considers how close to nearby objects the path is, a basic requirement for any path finding system. Clown shoes all the way down.

I finally figured out what CIG’s written reports remind me of: those student projects where nobody did anything meaningful for a few weeks and now have to give a progress report in front of the class. A lot of ”the team started learning” and trying to twist basic poo poo into something revolutionary in an attempt to make ”copy pasted some basic code from Stackoverflow into a file and it kinda compiled?” sound like a time-consuming task and significant progress.

I also know how these student projects tend to end up, and it does not bode well for CIG.

I took a look at the waybackmachine to see how many "backers" they had during the 2014 vote.

For the sake of simplicity and gently caress if I know you could vote or not without purchasing anything at the time, I'll just use Streetroller letter received by Ortwin that claimed 500,000 paying users and just compared to their site counters of 1.5 million users at the time to give me 1/3 buyer/register user numbers.

https://web.archive.org/web/20140625044147/https://robertsspaceindustries.com/
The June 2014 vote, there were 496,733 total users and 165,577 payed users.

About 7% of the total registered users and only 21% if you had to own something voted. So much for the users voting for this.

I'm fairly sure they also left the poll open after Chris announced the "result". This obviously skewed the result as all the citizens, as they always do, fell into line and voted retrospectively for the "right" answer as announced by Chris.

Yeah, the point i was after was that the actual poll didn’t alter the terms of the original pitch. Not at all.

And if you go back to the pitch, you see how far they’ve diverged as they introduce tier zero mechanics for ships they want to sell.

We’re now back to the 890 Jump being an FPS map.

the sequel "tenchu Z" was also really cool, it was one of From Software early games (dark souls etc)

they did a kinda spiritual successor to it last year called Sekiro which is hard as nails just like dark souls.
its a really fun game once you learn how to swordfight.

as far as stealth games go liked Splinter Cell way more than MGS

Actually, they haven't stopped giving refunds, it's just that their refunds specialists are overwhelmed and have a backlog. Please wait a bit for them to study your case and contact you. Thank you.

To me they read like the bullshit sales reports we used to file each month, desperately showing activity and full of hopeful forward looking statements which we knew were a complete load of bollocks...

Look, nothing works properly, you have Chris managing things (make that pixel...) , new stuff gets added randomly, the new person in charge of your team is 21, there are meetings with Lando in there, your are using cryengine, Sandi Gardiner sometimes roams the halls.

And on top of that you have to write a progress report, will all the progress that surely must have happened in that environment. For you, to report. That progress.

It's interesting how their arguments argue themselves into the ground

Like yeah, no one ever remembers what was promised or the goon favorite technical debt (the dumbest thing posted over and over in this thread) or hype videos or interviews or all the other horsecrap you could cite or reference or bring up

because

no one working on it remembers and it isn't relevant in the least. Whatever output from a butt code fire Star Citizen is progressing toward is detached from all the words in its past. Its an oral history of a dream no one will awaken to.
