Applebees Appetizer posted:Oh I remember Star Blazers now, that one was good too. If you're interested, there was a Space Battleship Yamato live action movie done in Japan in 2010, and I thought it was pretty good. Obviously the whole saga is abbreviated, since it's one 2 hour movie rather than a year of episodes, and the nature of Iskandar is altered just a bit. Worth it for a full-on CGI Yamato, and if nothing else, the launch scene. It's not been released in the US as far as I know, so you'll have to :files: it.

My friend services a location of a well-known chain of local strip clubs, and last week he sent a snap one morning of an abandoned line of blow on top of the toilet paper holder in one of the stalls. I mean, good for you guy who decided that probably wasn't a great idea (or got distracted by a stripper) but eeww why would you snort something off of ANY surface in a public bathroom, let alone a strip club bathroom? Mainly I'm just jealous my friend literally gets paid to see strippers dancing once a week <>

It's certainly a better approach than that garbage movie, which is possibly the most pretentious movie I've seen in the past 15 or so goddamn years and is about as pleasant as having a fat bald man scream "I've read Baudrillard" at you for two hours Actually, I'm burying the lead here that the first season especially of stand alone complex is good and fun and I've been listening to the soundtrack of both since the series came out. Yoko Kanno did it, the same composer that did the Cowboy Bebop

Probably because it is a strict violation of the FLSA to withhold a paycheck due to non-return of equipement. Tell your service manager to give the man his check before he gets federally hosed 5 ways from sunday. Whether you can deduct some or all of the cost of the uniforms is a more complex legal question that requires a lawyer you pay money to. nm fucked around with this message at 02:49 on Nov 10, 2019 |

Yeah that's illegal to do that, at my wife's company it happens all the time, guys get a bunch of safety gear (roofing) and then quit and never return the poo poo. Just the nature of the business, roofing labor is a revolving door.

E: From what I can find according to FLSA Fact Sheet #16 I can legally deduct the cost of uniforms as long as it doesn't drop the employee below minimum wage. For the record I'd like to correct my use of words, we're not keeping someone's check indefinitely, if they don't have the uniforms it's deducted from their check, 95% of the time it's deducted from their bonus funds that they accrue throughout the year. My backup beater (93 Passat Wagon) is straight up not roadworthy anymore, so back in October I put out some feelers for a replacement. Instantly I came across some true Automotive Insanity: 2004 Passat Wagon w/ 4-motion and a W8 mated to a 6-speed. Rumor is only 96 of these ever made it to the USA, in this configuration. My plan was to spend $150 on a last-minute round-trip flight to DC, check out what's probably a christmas tree of lights on the dash, lowball the hell out of the guy, then fly home if he didn't take my offer. I was also hoping his dogshit listing would scare anybody sensible away. (seriously, 3 crooked pics of dirty engine bay, off-center shots of the body & you're asking +$4000 over KBB?) I ended up being insanely busy through October until early this week, so I didn't even put a call in to the seller. My thought was any inquiries might tip him off that somebody might be interested... I wanted him desperate to sell to anybody with cash before he'd have to unload it at auction. The ad stayed up (and it's still up) so I reached out over the phone Monday with a script to see if he'd tell me he had it. "Ya got any, uh, 4-wheel drives over there? Winter's coming and I need something with 4-wheel drive. Got any soo-brews, awdies, vee dubyas?" But it was gone. Sold it the week previous. It was fun to dream for a while, but honestly I feel it was for the best. Worst-case scenario I'd have gambled & lost $3,000, and this feels kinda like someone buying my broken-down shitbox VW and breaking even on the deal. I still kinda wanted a 2nd vehicle as a winter beater though, and a couple days later a '05 Chevy Colorado popped up on the corner by my job. Snapped it up for $3,400. Drives great, needs nothing, clean, 165k miles. Nothing to write home about really, but the peace of mind knowing it's cheap as dirt to work on if something should happen puts a on my face. My entire life I've been buying and working on VW's. When someone in my family needs my help looking for a car, we look for a VW. It becomes a negative feedback loop - you buy what you know how to work on, and you learn how to work on what you buy. Besides a Honda motorcycle, I haven't owned anything else, so owning something American (much less a pickup truck) is absolutely out of character for me. So, it just so happens my cousin has a die-cutter machine, and he owes me a small favor, and I've got a dumb idea.. Kind of wonder what reaction it'll generate, if any at all. god drat I love this loving thing. I'm sure it's probably already paid for itself in the $ amount of things I've repaired with it instead of replacing, but also in terms of the of the itsy bitsy, teensie weensy wires, and BIG FUCKOFF ground planes I've had to solder. I mean it's probably paid for itself in the number of screwdrivers I haven't had to melt with a propane torch just to fix some dumb poo poo in a hurry, that my 30 year old radioshack pencil couldn't handle. I swear this fucker could solder a 00 wire to a battery terminal and hold. Anyway I fixed another thing: It turns out I didn't need new mosfets after all. Sorta related, a coworker asked me to look at his car to give him an idea of what's wrong with it, and if he should keep it or sell it. He's a self-described car idiot, and his English isn't the greatest, both of which put him at a disadvantage when dealing with shops, selling a car, and dealers. 2002 Passat 1.8T, manual. 260k miles. Immediately figured out it was the starter (it clunks and that's it, lights dim a little bit, but not much), we pushed started it and it runs okay, but the alternator light was on for a few minutes, and it seemed real low on power. Clutch felt like it was barely clinging to life, and it has rust holes in the fenders (.. in TX - bottomside had undercoating and looked pretty good, but there was significant rust on the front subframe and exhaust). AC compressor seized a month ago (shop confirmed black death). He has no idea if the timing belt has ever been done. I told him to throw a starter at it if he can find someone to do it cheap enough (I don't want to work on it myself, not with the level of rust I saw), list it on Craigslist for $1500, hope for $1000. Seem right? Shockingly, the only light on was the alternator light, but he just put a new battery in it, so it probably hasn't had time to throw 20 codes yet. He said he paid $1500 for it early this year, so that'd be a break even aside from repairs he's already put into it. randomidiot fucked around with this message at 20:14 on Nov 9, 2019 |

Some people sing in the shower (I've heard), I sing in the car. Like, (at times) full-throated belting out of "song", sometimes more subdued but always in earnest. I guess I've stopped thinking about how little soundproofing a car actually has, but at least the car full of teenagers that I stopped next to at a redlight just now thought my violation of "I will always love you" was worthy of applause. They did startle me tho.

For actual uniform deductions it is a more complex question and depends on state law, employee status, etc. If it is an attorney in your state question, and something any employer who wants to deduct should ask about. Withholding the paycheck is a strict no-no though.
