What's worse is Texas is a non-union state (or 'right to work' as it's delightfully called) so the Voice Actors Guild doesn't have any sway there. There's certainly going to be nothing like residuals. And Takoluka is right, if you want a job as a voice actor you either move to LA where you are always on the hustle for the next gig and really your job is auditioning more than acting or you're in Texas where you do something else. It's why Sabat opened his own studio and other folks also do script writing and directing and such.

I was at one of Steve Blum's panels years ago, and he was asked which of his projects was his favorite to watch or play. He replied that he never has that kind of time, which is spent driving around LA to either go audition or to get to whatever his next gig actually is.

And he's one of the bigger names in VA!

When he was interviewed by Daryl Surat for Anime World Order, he recounted how someone stopped him at a con and asked how to beat some section of Mass Effect 2. Guy just assumed Steve Blum knew the game by heart cuz he voiced Grunt

Yeah. You hear 'traffic in LA is really bad' but you don't actually know what that's like until you experience it. And even the big names don't get the part they audition for, more often than not. I'm pretty sure the only person who never auditions anymore is Frank Welker and that's because people go to him. (Because he's Frank Welker.)

It's certainly how he was able to live in LA without doing as much work as a Laura Bailey or Travis Willingham. Also probably what helped fund his little Star Trek cosplay vanity project.

There was an event in Georgia last week or so for Star Trek Continues and Mignogna was there to promote it. Of the one article I saw about it, none of them talked about his sexual assault or his lawsuit

I think the disconnect is the hot lesbian girls clearly still like guys as well, but the gay guys aren't gonna want anything to do with a woman so why would they write about gay guys loving??

Pretty much. Hell, in Japan it's not that different, even if you're well known. Chiwa Saitou does (or did? Idk) copywriting. Kenji Nojima, despite being from a family that's been in the entertainment business since forever (like seriously, probably since at least the Taisho era), constantly does IT-related stuff because he's worked on stuff like that since the 90's (It's why I found his casting as Umaru's big brother sorta funny).

Yuki Kaji (Eren in Attack on Titan, Todoroki in My Hero Academia, Alibaba in Magi among many more) mentioned that, despite all the roles he gets, he still gets rejected for the majority of auditions he goes to. Like unless you have the role modelled after you/with your voice in mind, which does happen, (Takehito Koyasu, Akira Ishida, Nana Mizuki, Kana Hanazawa, Tomokazu Seki, Tomoyo Kurosawa and Aoi Yuuki all had this occurrence happen), expect a lot of busts in those auditions.

Also, while my opinion of LA has been rekindled, I wouldn't wish LA hora pico/rush hour to anybody.

Well there was that time in 2007 when he was voicing Fai from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, and refused to sign gay fanart. And I mean, whatever, you don't have to sign things. But then he went on to say that CLAMP [the writers] told him explicitly that Fai was straight. CLAMP. CLAMP is a group of yaoi doujinshi artists who went pro and they have never written a straight man in their collective lives. The cornerstone of their manga empire is gay pining.

Does he just go to every audition for every series that ever opens, regardless of anything? Because I can't think of many recent series where he didn't voice someone, and he still gets rejected in most auditions? Jesus.

That's fairly common. And sometimes it comes with the caveat that casting director or one of the producers sometimes go "Well, that sucke-- wait a minute, maybe have him read for Y character instead?". That's how Sugita got Escanor for the Seven Deadly Sins, since he originally auditioned for Estarossa. Hell, Daisuke Ono had to re-audition again for the JoJo Stardust Crusaders anime even after having voiced him in the All Star Battle game, because the only person set in stone was Koyasu as DIO. Same for Diamond is not crash Unbreakable, where, funnily enough, Yuki Kaji replaced Romi Park for Koichi and the only two actors who reprised their roles were Wataru Takagi as Okuyasu (who's perfect for the role) and Showtaro Morikubo for Akira Otoishi (not as perfect as Okuyasu, but basically you were not going to get any other VA who has that natural pizzazz for the part).

Ah, I see. JYB, along with Greg Chun and Casey Mongillo, probably gave in my opinion the best performances in the Netflix dub of Eva. I could easily see him do Broly, since, while not possessing a crazy range, he does seem to be good at adapting at certain characters' quirks. Like how in the original DRRR dub, Hiroshi Kamiya's attempts of speaking Russian come out hilariously botched, but the way JYB voiced Izaya, the character's sneaky nature for those few scenes where he casually drops nearly-perfectly fluent Russian actually further amps how he's a loving scumbag. And I loved that little extra effort.

I think Tara Strong is one of the few voice actors who's been able to make decent money and that was because she was in almost every single cartoon from the mid 80s onwards, and it also took about the mid-2000s for the cash to really roll in with shows like Fairly Oddparents.

The first bit is Vic's deposition where he basically admitted through his own testimony that his lawsuit was a SLAPP with no real merit. The second part is referring to Ron Toye's deposition, where Ty Beard was incompetent as all hell at getting Ron to verify that pictures of tweets were how-to wanted a yes/no answer, and ron kept on saying 'they appear to be mine' without hard confirming (because that's a good thing to do in a deposition, the opposition could always do something sneaky and change what looks like something you wrote to be a bit different, putting you on the hook if you say it was what you wrote). But regardless, he argues with Ron for a while, and basically winds up ceeding the rest of the time he had to ask Ron anymore questions to go away and sulk, calling to end the deposition something like two hours early.

Tl;dr
