Christ, iPad OS absolutely sucks on my 2018 iPad. Stuff keeps getting swapped out of memory, even switching tabs on safari or swiping between apps. I even just had 2 pages crash and refresh on me while I had 2 web pages up on split screen.

And the recently used shortcuts in the dock still don’t work!

Have you tried power cycling or resetting it? Things seem to be working fine on my 2018.

I’m at my wit’s end with iOS13 on my 2018 Pro. Almost every time (but frustratingly, not always) I alt-tab between Outlook and Slack my keyboard cover stops working correctly. Force quitting Slack makes it work again until I start alt-tabbing. My keyboard randomly switches to Japanese input for no reason. I have a Japanese keyboard installed but I use English most of the time. The OS just decides to randomly swap it because HEY WHY NOT

I’d say this iPad is hosed but I’m seeing the same behaviour on my iPad6, and frustratingly the keyboard thing also on MacOS. Some of these I’ve tried to report as bugs, the others I’m not even sure how I’d go about reporting without sounding like a crazy person.

I’ve literally never been as frustrated with my Apple hardware/software as I have been with Catalina/iOS13

Apparently this is a known memory bug and is fixed in the next point release?

Any suggestions for a photo frame app for iPad? I'd like to import a whole bunch of photos and have different playback effects, shuffling, sorting, etc. It'd be nice to import via wifi or Dropbox, I do not want to use my iCloud photo library.

Google image search in iPadOS safari sucks now too. Clicking an image just brings a slightly bigger thumbnail over to the right. I wanna make the picture bigger so I can steal it without visiting the source, please.

Don’t know stuff myself, but what search queries have you tried? Searching for "portfolio" looks like it brings up some promising options, or "slide show". I know you don’t want to use your iCloud Photo Library, but how about the shared albums?

That's the desktop site. Hit the aA thing in the left of the address bar, website settings, and turn off desktop site (or turn on mobile site if it’s worded that way). Or just request mobile in the first level of the menu for a temporary change if you like the desktop site otherwise.

Just bought the 2019 10.2 inch iPad yesterday at Best Buy ($80 off!). It's been about 3 or 4 years since I sold my old iPad (I think it was the original iPad Air?) so I'm wondering if anything significant has changed in the past few years with the iPad specifically. I've owned iPhones in the meantime so if its an iOS-wide feature then I probably know about it.

I'm also looking for advice from parents, since my wife and I agreed that our toddler will be allowed to use it from time to time. He loves to draw on his magnadoodle thing so I was thinking of maybe getting him that Logitech crayon thing for it? Any specific apps that anyone recommends for drawing? Any specific accessories for toddler-proofing it? (I'm considering the cheap glass screen protectors from Amazon) Any specific settings to set up on the iPad for children's use? (The little one won't be using it unsupervised really.)

My advice from parents bit is don't let your toddler play with it. In fact try to not give them gadgets at all because it's a really slippery slope down to your kid turning in to a screen zombie who literally cannot function without a gadget in their hands. You think you'll be different and control this, but you won't.

Also toddlers are hell on touch screens no matter how closely you watch them.

I’ve been a member here for roughly half of my conscious life and it really is interested how the average age noticeably changed year after year.

Used to laugh at people pooping on a game system and blowing their fingers off, now I laugh at people who build houses stupid (and bitch about my career.)

Edit: it’s also looking like 2020 iPad Pro is going to focus on camera upgrades and AR stuff I don’t care about. I may just get an 11 pro while they’re 674 on amazon :sax:

Since upgrading to ios13, has anyone noticed that their iPad Pro 2 (or others, I guess) with official keyboard acts weird and either stops recognizing keyboard input or just types garbage until you force-quit the app in question and re-launch it?

Example:

Wake iPad Pro, try to type something in OneNote, no input. Force quit OneNote, relaunch it, all of a sudden keyboard is working. Definitely not limited to OneNote, but consistent issues across applications. Willing to concede it’s either a keyboard issue (less likely IMO) or a software issue, just wanted to see if anyone else gets same issue before I go down hardware replacement or bug filing road.
