I'm a veteran and I don't wear a poppy. I was also born in this stupid country. Fight me Don. Also the best thing about this rear end in a top hat getting fired is now we can see who rushes to his defense and they can get fired too.

But seriously, ask them why they think a pinko liberal would vandalize the cenotaph with an admonishment about remembrance? Like, the whole message is "you forgot", the fact that it's spray painted on the cenotaph is some galaxy brain poo poo, but it's very clearly not coming from the people doing the forgetting. They do the restaurant thing most places they go. I don't think they're particularly harmful but that area is full of university students they're probably more than happy to give aid and comfort to if they are homesick or depressed. More than happy to take all their worldly possessions, too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Global doesn't give Don Cherry a segment every night called Coach's Corner where he just gets to rant for ten minutes. More than likely he's getting a PostMedia column called Coach's Corner.

Sometimes we have to be thankful for the things we take for granted in life; I'm thankful Canada is still a place where that comments like that can generate enough outrage to get him fired, as opposed to 100km south of me where their politicians say and inflict stuff to immigrants 10x more heinous and it's been normalized.

Don't gloat too much. This has been overdue for decades. I believe the only reason this one stuck was because his racism implicated troop loving this time, and respect for Our Troops is higher in the hierarchy of values for most canadians than just about anything else Telling, for example, that Mr Singh's response to the comments on twitter was to post pictures of his troop grandfather rather than just point out the obvious and grotesque racism

Anyone who doesn't already see WW1 as the outcome of a dick waving contest between superpowers forming mutual protection pacts in face of a massive acceleration of industrialization and imperialism is never going to be swayed. Also anyone who doesn't see the rise of the Nazi party in Germany and WW2 as a response to the overly punitive nature of the Treaty of Versailles isn't ever going to be convinced that WW2 was anything but 'WW1 was over and everything was ok and then *poof* Nazis!

Amongst the non-whining claims in the article: Alberta is the only place in the world criticized for fossil fuels; Neil Young has never engaged in any form of protest before; being mean to Alberta is the reason the oil industry is struggling; Trudeau has never done anything for the oil industry; and also there is a reference to “the mandarins of central Canada”, which I hope gets him fired for racism whether it’s racist or not. Finally, Albertans don’t want to separate, so how dare you compare them to Quebec, but they must if they’re ever to be treated with respect. On the other hand Connie wrote about how Boris Johnson is a genius, so Rex still isn’t the most brain damaged writer at the Post.

Interesting note about the "no one ever protests anywhere else, just here in Canada and towards Alberta" whining. A couple weeks ago, I think the week after Greta Thunberg's visit, my dad brought that up with me and how lots of groups operating in Camada get funding from the US and the usual stuff. I said to him "that's a good point dad, let's look up why we haven't heard anything from the US since the Dakota protests against fracking" and what I found out is that since those protests a whole bunch of oil and gas companies lobbied the government to get a bill passed so that they could make protesting a felony. That's why we only hear about it in Canada, hard to get a whole lot of people out to protest when the government will gladly pass legislation to let the police roll into a camp and detain everyone. Granted, I'm not surprised that legislation went through easily considering who is the president right now.

He just means it's a signpost that an (the?) idea of Canadian 20th century masculinity is at the end of its road. Don Cherry was an icon of that kind of masculinity, him being cancelled makes a lot men and women feel like their idea of what makes a man is being cancelled too.
