how likely is it they win versus die horribly? do they have weapons?

Hello friend, in Bolivia there is NO RESISTANCE TO THE ARMY. There is a peaceful movement of the Bolivian people to allow the Army to practice resisting and ousting the criminal Evo. The people of Bolivia are doing this by testing that the firearms of the army are fully functional, unlike the FRAUDULENT elections (confirmed by The OAS).

Yeah, that piece could have been on the Wall Street Journal 10 years ago.

The degree of debate allowed in the US media has always been very limited, but it pretty much doesn't exist at this point even on core domestic issues that affect the population. At most your going to going to get is some mild divergence on social issues.

(On one hand, I get why Bernie/DSA supporters still believe things can be fixed, but we will see in about 3-4 months. The US has always been this way, but the gloves are coming back off.)

"'The CSUTCB instructs the nine departmental and 26 regional federations to carry out the siege of the city of La Paz, giving Mr. Fernando Camacho a 48-hour ultimatum to retreat with his contracted and violent people from the Cruceñista Juvenile Union, otherwise, they will be responsible for all the acts that are registered.'”

Reports that the military are joining the police in the ongoing street clashes with Evo supporters and that La Paz is under martial law. Seen some footage of indigenous militants armed with guns, and the police were already using live ammunition more or less immediately; it's only a matter of time before both sides end up shooting at each other at this rate. This could easily deteriorate into a full-on civil war.

gee for what I'm told is a big win for the people and democracy they seem to be having to kill and brutalize a shitload of people to keep it going

I basically follow Mexican officials on twitter and read their poo poo.
The Foreign Secretary (https://twitter.com/m_ebrard) has provided the most comprehensive info on Mexico's stance. Senator Citlalli Hernandez has been sharing videos of supporters (https://twitter.com/CitlaHM).

I can't vouch for it, but Milenio has been posting some stuff:
https://www.milenio.com/politica/traslado-evo-morales-mexico-periplo-marcelo-ebrard
(Looks like Ecuador's neolib gov retracted their airspace and they had to fly around them to get Evo back)

If someone is regularly posting on the internet and doing so in English, they are easily in the top 2-3% of the wealth distribution in Bolivia. They are about as representative of the opinions of the average Bolivian as your white suburbanite McMansion home owner is representative of American public opinion.

This is ridiculous. The US gives it 50 million dollars a year because it loves international cooperation and covering for its impoverished brethren :)

I love that people will bend themselves backwards for 'local voices' holding no confidence in their own intelligence. As if I would not laugh my rear end off at the political breakdown given by any random internet poster if it was about the U.S. let alone Bolivia.

It’s the general Latin American thread so it’s not a bolivia specific op.

the fun thing about this is these people are universally always fail children.

boss leans on subordinate to find assignment for fail child

subordinate throws something together to get boss of his back

boss approves it without any consideration to get whoever is bugging them about their fail daughter off their back.

The US have a much more narrow definition of whiteness than Latin America. So you end up wealthy people from Latin America who were considered white in their home countries and who enjoyed every bit of white privilege moving to the US and being given leadership positions in woke organizations that want to look diverse but don't want to rock the boat too much.

Yeah, I'm no expert but "the time is now" or "it is time" would make more sense. So it's closer to something like "now is the time for civil war" or "it's the right time for civil war".

Fascist cops and coup leaders are tearing down the indigenous flag and rounding up the poor. Basically the entire MAS party has had to flee and claim asylum for their own safety. This is a party, mind you, that had a strong democratic majority; that is supported by over half the populace. How will the coup government rule? Thousands if not tens of thousands are going to be killed, with ten times that number becoming refugees. I hope the liberals wringing their hands about the supreme court’s abolition of term limits come to reckon with this reality. It’s seriously distressing to consider the reality of the tragedy we are seeing unfold.

This is what they’ve come to destroy:

I just can't believe after 13 successful years in power, Evo wasn’t successful in forming an ideologically strong component in the military to stand up to this bullshit. He founded the “School of Anti-Imperialism,” how is there no armed faction declaring loyalty to the elected ruling government? This is so drat depressing, hats off to Maduro though for finding a way.
