cannot emphasize this enough. If you want to learn something, anything, the best way is to do it. Think of something you'd enjoy achieving, and the process of working out how to achieve it will be so much more valuable to you than any amount of teaching. I tend to find any directed tutorials just wash over me because there's no drive to actual discover something. I don't remember anything that's taught.

The great thing about learning to code in 201X is the sheer amount of scaffolding available to you, so you can take almost prebuilt solutions and tweak them, or spin your own from scratch. So if you're start to feel lost or out of your depth at any point, you can focus only on the bits that you want to work out how to do.

I'm not a coder (designer) but i love spinning up pure css solutions to things i've seen people on codepen do using javascript, and i'm currently learning react by building a dumb thing (a custom portfolio with 'features').

Absolutely agree even if you're not looking to make it into a profession - it's great fun to work out how to automate silly little things or build your own custom little tool.

At the moment I'm seriously considering just writing my own podcast app for my phone because they literally all miss at least one absolutely essential feature. I've literally no experience in mobile apps but like you say the amount of scaffolding available out there is ridiculous and even if the whole thing ends up being made of copy/pasted code from stackoverflow you still get the pleasure of working out what goes where, and iyou still get the sense of achievement the first time it works.

I'd compare it to cooking for yourself or DIY. You may not end up with a result that is as good as what you can just go out and buy off the shelf, but it'll be *your* thing you end up with.

Suspect you're right, at least to some extent. Lib Dems have always had a reputation quite a bit left of the actual party leadership, and I'm not sure how many people took the coalition's lesson to be "LDs are right wing", especially now that it's a few years ago and they've managed to make Remain such a central issue.

But now that the rubber's hitting the road I think quite a few of the single-issue Remain voters are seeing that Corbyn is their only real bet and want the LDs to cooperate towards that goal. Standing in constituencies they have no hope of winning but might deliver to the tories, and empowering an absolutely guaranteed hard Brexit, doesn't seem like a winning strategy.

And I have anecdotally seen plenty of their people mad as hell about the chart nonsense, lol.

Thinking Jo may well have huffed her own farts and is now genuinely convinced that 326 seats for the Liberal Democrats is entirely plausible.

It is amazing how much the smaller parties are loving it. I know a lot of greens who've switched to labour because they are furious at the idea of working with the Lib Dems, and a few Welsh Lib Dems who are angry at the idea of working with Plaid because they are staunch unionists.

It's great stuff lads.

Bear in mind too that most of the Lib Dems' target seats are Tory. It's not too surprising their leadership are very publicly on the Never Corbyn bandwagon given that; their behaviour after the election may differ. (or, of course,. it may not :clegg:)
