Kodo posted:Not sure if it has already been mentioned but enjoyed how the intro was a slight allusion to Superman (The Clarks and their farm, mysterious object from the sky, the show's references to popular superheroes like Batman). Does the fade imply this event happened many years ago before the city was built? Might imply the Clarks' kid could as a grown up be a vigilante, possibly lube man? I didnt catch that the couple were named the clarks The interesting part is how this means that Truie has effectively privatised "Superman"s origin, by buying the farm right before he crashes on it.

My theory with Lady Trieu and Will is they're planning to use whatever is in the pills and the Millennium Clock to somehow to "share" memories of horrific racial traumas (Greenwood, Vietnam) en masse, in order to create wide-scale, cross-racial empathy. This would theoretically bring the races together the same way the Squid brought the U.S. and Russia together.

Thats an interesting theory, although white people in reality would just say "Wow, first we had to deal with the burden of being white, and now we have all experienced these terrible memories, so we really have it worse than anyone" and any attempt to make things better for non-whites would be decried as racism against white people, thus going nowhere, same as it is now

For a while I was semi-convinced that Trieu's daughter was a precog, which is how they knew something valuable would fall on the Clark farm but not so far in the future that they could buy them out, like, six months ahead of time. But the pills being racial memory enhancers is an interestingly goofy alternate. Or maybe! The pills, together with whatever the clock will do, give people flashes of Dr. Manhattan's experience-all-your-life-at-once ability/curse. Trieu did what she did, when she did, because it was inevitable. In which case, her daughter's nightmare may still be a sign of something that hasn't happened yet. If this series parallels the comic, trieu is planning a squid-pocolypse level destruction conspiracy. The doomsday clock I feel might be a red herring and might just be a fancy house

Looking Glass's ex having a lab that's analyzing the pills off the books makes it seem inevitable to me. Having it be squid bits or synthetic lithium are the only two things that make sense at this point, and I think they're saving the synthetic lithium for a big bomb.

Nail Rat posted:No. Trieu started building the millennium clock after Veidt disappeared. He's been gone 7 years in the present of the show. She had already begun building it in the farm flashback so it's less than 7 years ago. This made me think. If we assume that each anniversary (and number of cake candles) where we see Ozy represents a year since the last time (i.e., it was 2013 when we saw him in ep 1, 2014 in ep 2), then he would reach present-day 2019 in episode 7, or three episodes from now. Lady Trieu said that something big will happen in three days -- or, possibly three episodes from now, episode 7. I also know from early on in this thread that reviewers have only been shown up to episode 6. This all leads me to believe that episode 7 will have some crazy poo poo happen.
