That too, they might umm and ahh right now but if you get that through to them that it's labour or the tories, they don't have to say it to your face, but they'll remember that you care, that you want them to stay here, that you are fighting for that and you think labour is too. There is no "everything I want with a cherry on top" option on the ballot paper.

I didn’t say I agreed with them. I’m voting labour. They however aren’t going to, hence why I’m feeling really low about it all. Maybe if the manifesto looks better than I’m expecting on issues of immigration, I might be able to convince them. Edit: I did give students five minutes to register to vote in my lecture this morning, with the website open and ran them through how to do it, so hoping that might balance things out.

It's a different perspective on 'what am I actually doing when I'm learning a programming language' compared to like Javascript tutorial stuff. Yeah I'm really glad I wound up taking a Computer Design course, which was all about what a CPU is actually trying to do, how it interacts with memory, and how to read and write code in assembly languages. Gave me a much better grasp on what all this high level stuff distills to, and how to debug it when your poo poo crashes (hooray for programming for embedded devices!).

A while back I came across a web game that teaches how a computer is made out of basic logic gates - the game consists of building up to constructing a full processor-and-memory arrangement using nand gates and constructions you previously made out of nand gates. It was great, and really helped understand how a computer works. There's also a course out there called Nand To Tetris that does that and goes further into programming a game on the virtual computer you make, that is more educationally-oriented and not a game in itself.

I'm not blackpilled, I'm mentally ill. I didn't loving choose this and I certainly don't like the implication that I did. Hi forkboy, I'm sorry. And I'm sorry that you're dealing with depression cause it's an absolute dick. I've had it myself, I know how it just makes everything negative and I do get that. I'm sorry for making it sound like it was your choice, I should have worded my issue clearer. The difficulty I have at times with this thread is when people are feeling negative and are determined to enforce that negative belief on others in an attempt to have that negativity confirmed as reality. This isn't just unhealthy for the person at the source it also has a real demoralising effect on the rest of the group which I do think we need to avoid at such a crucial time. Keeping Labour activists positive and motivated is important and will be a key factor in any election success. Of course I want people suffering with depression to be supported, there's a and there's a conflict here which I dunno how to resolve :/ Sorry again, thanks for calling me out and I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

It's probably more helpful to not direct the ire at the person experiencing the problem even if it is tremendously annoying when someone else does it even if you are prone to it yourself. Though equally I'd probably ask if people try to remain mindful that the thread is full of broke brains of one form or another and trying to remain aware that despair is a brain problem rather than a material certainty is probably likely to engender better responses.

Yeah I’m sorry, increasingly my job has turned into mental health triage for students with serious personal trauma or difficult circumstances before we can get them either to student support or before campus security can get on site. When I’m not doing that I’m having the difficult conversations regarding the fact they can’t stay on the course. so dealing with that day to day in addition to the generalised worry about politics, I’m either depressed or starting to suffer from degrading mental health myself. I guess I use this forum to blow off steam with my concerns because I can’t in my work life, but I don’t want to bring others down either. I’ll stop posting.
