Asking "What about the democratic will of people who weren't born into aristocratic lineages?" is a very clear case of whataboutism.

Venezuela is increasingly starting to look like an outlier, no other Latin American country with an elected left-wing government has been able to gain the loyalty of the military in the same way. Not even Bolivia's attempt at ideological education really seems to have helped all that much. It remains to be seen how this develops, though. If the coup's victory looks inevitable I expect the military will mostly continue to accept the rule of the new government; if the pro-Morales faction starts looking like they might be able to mount a serious resistance you might see some defections.

They probably know you're in the target demographic for Grayzone. I DDG'ed Bolivia just now and got the following sources, from top to bottom: BBC, The Nation, Reuters, Wikipedia, Lonely Planet, Tripadvisor, Wikitravel, Infoplease (?), literally the CIA, then NYT. Supposedly they don't do any tracking/targeting.

The most popular news page with young St. Louis city kids is #REALSTLNEWS, which only broadcasts when their randos show up on facebook live to stream fires, shootings, or protests in the city. No amount of tweaking algorithms and shoving the corporate news media in front of people is going to change that fact.

Yeah the absolute worst thing about mainstream news isn't even that they're craven sellouts, but that they're so boring about it. They can arrange panels of "experts" who somehow manage to say nothing that isn't already conventional wisdom. It's a complete dearth of any insight whatsoever.

I pulled back up the "no hubo golpe" page, saw that the results were only in Bolivia and Argentina, so I narrowed it down to Argentina https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%205-y&geo=AR&q=%22no%20hubo%20golpe%22 and then looked up what the June 2019 spike was and then https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/argentinas-june-2019-blackout-what-went-wrong-carlos-st-james https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/16/world/americas/power-outage-argentina-uruguay.html LinkedIn article posted:The fact that it happened early on a Sunday morning when demand was low meant that in the end the most important thing was addressing the multiple Argentine conspiracy theories regarding which political party must have been behind this act of Election Day sabotage. (Upon hearing of the blackout, U.S. observers immediately went to their own bogeyman: it must have been a terrorist attack!) I'm not sure which election the article means by Election Day, since their general election was in October, and there's no indication that anything went on in Argentina. Assuming that nothing happened, it's still indicative that Google Trends works to capture sentiment like some people being afraid a coup is happening when there's a widespread power outage for ordinary reasons.

interestingly the guardian published an article in 2012 (before MI5 fully tamed them) where they describe how the civilians in aleppo were fighting back viciously against the turk backed salafis trying to take over key neighbourhoods. then they went silent and boom, a few years later they're reporting on the brave freedom fighters and their tweetin' kids. so if this does escalate even more we have a contemporary template for how media will cover it

So the MAS legislative contingent (who, it bears noting, are a supermajority of both houses in the legislature) look like they've effectively been extralegally removed from office - not officially, but in practice they're mostly in hiding and when some of them attempted to gain access to the Senate House, the building in which they do their jobs, they were beaten by police and driven away. They were intending to convene a legislative session (which would constitutionally have quorum since, again, they constitute a supermajority by themselves) and reject Morales' resignation, but having been denied entrance to the building (because of course they were, I don't know what they were expecting), what I'm wondering now is what do they do next? They've got a large contingent of supporters out on the streets, the unions are starting a general strike tomorrow, and while many of them are in hiding the vast majority of the party's leadership and elected officials have managed to escape arrest. Do they attempt to hold an emergency session of the legislature anyway, even without being able to access the congressional building? The one thing they seem uninterested in doing is disbanding, and I'm surprised at how few of them seem to have fled (there were a few dozen MAS officials and their families who sought asylum, but that's a few dozen out of hundreds).
