High on the Lions.

There really is a tribalization of society and poo poo like the Don Cherry poo poo continues to highlight it.

A bunch of guys in the military are standing up for Don because he is super pro military, regardless of the fact that what he did was pro-racist

It's incredibly frustrating.

I'm pretty glad all of my vet friends are loudly anti-don this week. Now, they are all about 30-50 years old and not chuds, so that helps. But yeah, a really good week to get rid of another half dozen people on facebook with vile opinions.

I remember being in BMQ (basic) watching the bombs fall on Baghdad. I think I actually cried a little when Paul Martin said we wouldn't participate because I was so happy
Anyone, ANYONE who says we should have participated in that war is a loving moron, even at the time when we didn't know the horrific outcome
In no way, shape or form was the CF able to carry out any sort of combat mission. We were stretched to the max in Afghanistan already.

Was it this thread that someone posted this article from a while back about the Legion?
https://nowtoronto.com/news/why-todays-veterans-avoid-the-royal-canadian-legion/

Highlights: Veterans are a minority of Legion members, vets in leadership positions are apparently so rare they are tokens, national leadership calls itself “Dominion Command” and they have their own uniforms, medals, insignia, etc. This is on top of the tacky poppy commercialism already noted.

Feels kind of close to civilians doing military cosplay / stolen valour to me, though I’d appreciate being set straight if not.

The legion is also struggling to attract younger veterans and ex-service people to it, and also has a significant problem with members grossly misrepresenting (or making up out of whole cloth) their military service. Its presence is often used by such types to grant themselves a thin veneer of respectability.

The Legion in Grande Prairie is in danger of being de-certified as a legion because of their apparent support for neo-Nazi gangs like the Sons of Odin. They've been under investigation for a couple months but that hasn't stopped them from stepping up to host the town forum for the Wexit clown show when it comes to town. You wouldn't think that a Royal Canadian Legion would platform a group that wants to separate the province from Canada, but here we are.

Sorry to do this here, but there were a few BCTF goons who were talking organizing a while back.

A few of us from VSSTA and VESTA (Vancouver locals) have started organizing a caucus to reform the union to run it LA/Chicago teacher union style.

If those people talking reform earlier are in the GVRD and are interested in participating, or from others around the province to try to organize for the AGM, reply to this post and I’ll buy PMs to talk to you.

Thanks!

P.s. anyone who is interested in organizing should by “Secrets of a Successful Organizer” by Labor Notes. It is basically a step by step how to to democratize your union and win.

It's insane. It's common to have a game and a practice every weekend, so that's Saturday and Sunday. If your kid is good and makes 'select' that's another 2-3hrs of ice time on top of those first two. Plus tournaments and travel. And then if your kid is really good and makes AA/AAA you have to buy season tickets to watch them play, which can run 2-5,000 per seat.

As an aside, I'm playing old man beer league tonight and extremely not looking forward to the hot takes on Don Cherry I'm going to hear in the locker room.

Don't forget also that the parents of really good hockey players might also have to deal with their kid getting calls from agents, even at the Bantam level (meaning they are 13 years old and potentially have an agent).

Yup, and that's not even counting the additional strength/conditioning stuff they have to do, or fund-raising drives. The time/money investment for these kids is just bananas.
