FFS, he doesn't even know the lyrics or hand gestures. Bad snipe 195 days ago it was the 29th of April, on which day Camborne in Cornwall celebrates Trevithick day. http://trevithickday.org.uk/ I think it might have something to do with steam engines. Voting in the past is one of the best indicators for voting in the future - so getting more people voting in 2017 makes this election easiser aswell, 18-24 turnout should break 60% easily, I think 65%

Can we do math-magic to unfuck the predicted vote share based on that? I mean I say 'we' but lol if I have the first clue about it. I'm being very needy today, apologies. Also, I'm organising a wild cat teach-in with my HPT friends as I type. Polling cards arrived today. The wife and I are looking forward to voting Labour and doing our bit to dislodge oil industry bootlicker and general Tory shitbag Conor Burns. It's a longshot as he has a 7,711 majority, but it'll still (just) be university termtime and there are a shitload of student flats in the ward...

Do not work during a strike please, it is scabbing. Do not teach during a strike, that is also scabbing. The whole point is to cause disruption. Yes, it absolutely sucks that those kids are getting shafted because the bosses don't care about making sure they're being taught by offering an acceptable pay and benefits package, but it absolutely is not your fault that the bosses aren't doing that. Putting responsibility on us is exactly what the bosses want to do, and undermines any collective action (see: headlines surrounding literally every public service strike pointing the finger at striking workers for inconveniencing service users). Just make sure that your students know exactly whose fault it is that they're not getting taught. e: Barry Foster posted:Also, I'm organising a wild cat teach-in with my HPT friends as I type Thanks to all who replied the other day btw, it was a big help. The Guardian have got Joel Golby writing weekly election articles, and as usual he comes up with some really funny lines: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/nov/15/boris-johnson-internet-voters-prime-minister-vogue-video quote:Mike Gapes – the man with the defeated air of someone who has been turned away from a city centre Laser Quest because “you can’t play on your own here, mate, that’s weird” – has released his campaign poster this week, which is basically just a red and yellow Labour campaign poster with a small disclaimer at the bottom to remind voters that he defected to the party now known as “The Independent Group For Change”, remember, and also a bizarrely heartbreaking call to arms in the top right corner, reading: “It will really help me if you display this poster in your window. Thank you.” I don’t know why, but the polite, thin, desperation of this actually makes me weepingly sad. Gapes, politely asking that you display his campaign poster in your window, thanks, for as long as it takes for someone to report him for misrepresentation to the Electoral Commission and he sadly has to go round all the shops and houses in Ilford, and ask that they take them down.

There'll be materials on the UCU web site to help direct students' anger towards the real enemy. I totally understand that trying to minimise the disruption is intended to keep the students onside, but it is counterproductive: it feeds into the idea that this is our fault, rather than the bosses. e: oh god damnit I write too slow.
