Wait, when did Hong Kong become a city?

Hong Kong Island itself was taken over by the British from 1842. At that time there were about 8000 people across the villages on the island. By 1865, colonial administration reported a population of 125,504 - which is pretty densely settled for about 30 square miles of land total.

So you could probably say in the 1850s or 1860s.

That was the City of Victoria. Hong Kong as an entity has always been more than a city.

You do realize Hong Kong encompasses more than the downtown core right? Hong Kong is not a city.

Cool story bro. Most of that land was purchased/leased after the 1860s:

(Not that at time of acquisition, Kowloon Peninsula only had ~800 residents)

Not sure if you missed that we were talking about the 19th century or what.

The great firewall, while nasty, pales in comparison to ongoing genocide. I suppose it is an important factor in allowing it to continue, though. I actually always thought the CCP was a bulwark against ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang, but looks like I was completely wrong on that.

I’m sympathetic to “anti-imperialism” and even partially to the sentiment that attempts at neutrality or critique of capitalism from within the capitalist system can only be subsumed into it, though I’m not cynical enough yet to believe that developed countries can’t be reformed from within. But pretending that “the other side” is better is laughable.

Who cares what trash that genocide lover says? You asked when Hong Kong became a city, it was after the British seized the land and started importing a massive Chinese workforce to the land they controlled and thinly settled with British and other white people.

Projection is a psychological defense mechanism in which an individual attributes unwanted thoughts, feelings and motives onto another person.
Thoughts most commonly projected onto another are the ones that would cause guilt such as aggressive and sexual fantasies or thoughts.

(Edit: Just noticed Ogmius815 has been repeatedly defending Epstein and other rich rapist collaborators on this forum... I'll never be able to change my mind if all my ideological enemies in the liberal camp keep revealing themselves as creepy sexually hosed up misosgynist oppressors!)

UAE telecom du sees no evidence of ‘security holes’ in Huawei's 5G technology: CTO

quote:

DUBAI (Reuters) - United Arab Emirates (UAE) telecoms company du saw no evidence of security concerns about Huawei’s 5G technology, the company’s chief technological officer Saleem Albalooshi told Reuters on Sunday.

“Huawei is our partner in rolling out our 5G network... From a security perspective.. we have our own labs in the UAE and we visit their labs... we have not seen any evidence that there are security holes specifically in 5G,” Albalooshi said.

The anti huawei campaign is working out well!!

That's one hell of a caveat to their report. That's drat close to "all their gear has well-known backdoors in it, so it's not specific to 5g". I don't think that's what they intended to say but still, that's a really concerning disclaimer.
