zoux posted:Oh sorry I was focusing on the part where you said that everyone in the thread was a gross misogynist because they didn't like YA, and then I was pointing out that's the exact same "lovely" thing all those popular authors did. That's pretty much the only thing you see social justice critique used for anymore, since it turned out to be completely impotent against anyone with actual power, and its contradictions mean you can pretty much cancel anyone for anything if you get your narrative in place before they do. You don't hear 'privilege' much anymore once people started actually bringing class into the equation. Parakeet vs. Phone posted:Similar to how so many Japanese games and shows are based on high school, because that was the last time they felt truly free with options ahead of them. As in many things, I think Japan was just ahead of the curve here.

But where else can you have authors who can barely string two words together beg you to "honestly review" their self-published books and then publicly explode in impotent rage when you do? Goodreads is the best.

Goodreads is the best. I haven't done anything with Goodreads in years, but it seemed like it was becoming one of those places that had just enough moderation to deter overt trolling and poo poo, but not enough to run off the toxic fragile types who will gaslight about how they don't like drama and mean people then blowup over anything negative or critical. Reasonable people either get run off for antagonizing them, stop showing up because only talking about how great something is is boring, or get brainwashed into the hivemind.

This guy I used to work with self-published his horror book on Amazon and asked me to read it. It's free, so I figured why not. It's about a secret military experiment that created a skeleton that is jet black and rips out people's skeletons. It fuckin sucked. The book says that it just rips their skeletons out of their mouth. How? I think that's what I hated the most.

It's on Amazon. Pretty sure it's still free. It's called Stravlin Black. Try to ignore the typos. Also is there a word for when you use the completely wrong word thinking it means something different? Because that happens a fair bit in the book.

Is there a place where I can make a thread to just dunk on this book? It's very not good. Amazon's Excerpt posted:The strange sensation of being watched comes over Emma as she unlocks the front door to her house. Slowly, she turns to see a woman standing near the snow-covered sidewalk. The woman’s face is emotionless, eyes haunted-looking, and her mouth is hanging agape. No clouds of breath leave her open mouth and she shows no notice to the cold even though she is wearing a white T-shirt with blue sweatpants. It’s in this moment Emma notices she is barefoot in the snow and her instincts shriek about the danger they sense. Emma cautiously offers, ”Hello?”

Hahaha, I read a bit and he goes right away in to black skeleton ripping people's skeletons, no mystery, no thrill, just THERE, black skeleton out of the blue killing a lady without explanation. Edit: And oof, that wasn't a very good writing.

mal·a·prop /ˈmaləˌpräp/ Learn to pronounce noun noun: malapropism the mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with unintentionally amusing effect, as in, for example, “dance a flamingo ” (instead of flamenco ). How did you live through the Bush administration and not learn this word?
