Cross post from the NCAA thread, but one of SBNation's writers is from Evansville and he spent the week before the UE / UK game with Walter McCarty: https://www.sbnation.com/2019/11/18..._source=twitter

He also wrote an article a few years ago on the 40th anniversary of the plane crash that killed the team and coaching staff right as UE had moved up from Division II to I: https://www.sbnation.com/2019/11/18..._source=twitter

I can't recommend Ken Dryden's The Game enough.

E: John U. Bacon's "3 and Out" is a pretty good look at Rich Rodriguez's tenure at Michigan, sabotaged by both his own decisions and people undermining him at the school

Lol, NBA would scuttle that so fast. An oral history is one thing, showing it over and over in a new TV special is another.

Contrasting to Michael's "Me first" style the Pistons played the game the right way.

It used to be the one thing they'd actually pull but then they eventually gave up.

The funniest part of Malice in the Palace is Artest getting back to the locker room and asking Stephen Jackson "do you think we'll get in trouble?" with complete sincerity

That's a nice set of 11 dynasty points there, it would be a shame if 3 rings were to happen with it
I remember watching Malice at the Palace in my dining hall freshman year of college. I couldnt get people's attention to show then and eventually I had to tell my friends to shut the gently caress up and look at the TV

Ron Artest wasn't mentally prepared for the heavy cycles Jordan introduced him to. This backfired in a way MJ never expected when in a fit of roid rage Ron Artest broke two of Jordan's ribs. Artest later went on to attack a fan during a basketball game in an event known as "Malice in the Palace". That's the risk with introducing steroid to a young person, you never know how they are going to react.

Everything comes back to Michael Jordan's Steroid usage.

Yeah the company started a politics/culture site called Gen. Magary was writing for them even before Deadspin imploded. I think the idea was that it'd replace what he was previously doing for GQ, but now I assume it'll get some of the deadspin stuff too

Medium is a weird site. On one hand, it's got all this self published stuff, on the other it has some professional writers, on the third hand it has like 100+ page Elizabeth Warren policy proposals.
