Booourns posted:what the gently caress is this poo poo Good thing Ontario has a College of Homeopathy so we can harness that placebo effect as a regulated alternative for long suffering patients who tend to be more regular visitors to emergency departments, spend more time in hospital and bounce between specialist waiting rooms quote:Brain stimulation is one of the most promising new treatments for mental illness. But when researchers in Finland took two groups of patients with chronic, severe depression and treated one group with rTMS – a non-invasive device that generates brief magnetic pulses to spark electric currents into a mood-related part of the brain – and the other with a fake rTMS device, just as many people got better on the sham device as the real one.

Medicine only recently began to emerge from our background of bloodletting and snake oil, and y'all motherfuckers want to go back to those days? Give me RCTs or give me death. And to anyone saying homeopathy is mostly harmless, homeopaths are among the most anti-vaccination quacks out there. And that's the part of medicine most responsible for increases in life expectancy in the past century and a half. Hexigrammus posted:I encourage everyone to check out the Wikipedia entry on this stuff, it's hilarious. Saying its good to keep lovely placebos (or POSSIBLY POISON) in our pharmacies because it might minimize a few ER visits is a galaxy hot take. Yeah, lets increase the risk some sleep deprived parents grabs a fake medicine instead of tylenol for their baby's fever and roll the dice on if they die or have severe complications. Not to mention all the times these garbage companies had a whoopsie and included a ton of nightshade or arsenic whatever in their pills by accident. Its loving ridiculous that stores like Shoppers even carry this garbage, but gently caress, thats capitalism. Postess with the Mostest posted:Not that I don't believe you but I've never seen that in any pharmacy or grocery store. I've never accidentally picked up a homeopathic thing next to tylenol or other drug store type things. In Ontario many stores have the homeopathic stuff literally right besides real medicine for things like flus or fever.

It would be fine if their poo poo was actually diluted to one in a billion except when it isn't and many babbies die from being "treated" with deadly nightshade that has barely been diluted at all! https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/hundreds-of-babies-harmed-by-homeopathic-remedies-families-say/

I think there's probably a more effective way to do that than to give her a job whose very description is "jet around the country and build relationships with provincial actors, and hey maybe while you're in Winnipeg you could fit in a lunch with riding association presidents or whatever".

Postess with the Mostest posted:The more doctors rail against placebos, the more effective it is when they prescribe them. Key here being a doctor who'd already decided you weren't in danger of dying before prescribing you nothing. A toddler who needs that fever brought down could end up in the ER because his parents gave him essence of bullshit root instead of tylenol. That one's on the shelf right next to the other is awful even by Daryl Katz standards

Martin wasn't popular with the electorate, he was popular with Liberal party insiders. Chretien occasionally threatened to call an election that he knew he would win just to beat Martin back from time to time. edit: grammammer

They aren't striking for pay increases, CN workers are on strike because CN keeps pushing 18 hour shifts on workers with short turnarounds and it become a massive safety issue for workers.
