After watching that, I really think sondland or his lawyer properly identified that there was no way in hell he'd be able to testify against that lawyer without getting shredded. Throwing everyone else out as bait and trying to not look like a money-grubbing rear end in a top hat were his only plays, and he really only pulled off the first.
