His Alex Jones voice sounds sort of like Kumquat's YES HELLO voice, in that they're both yelling. I guess their regular voices have a similar range, but beyond that, it's all you.

Despite my love of the F Plus, one thing I prefer about Extra Credits is that, as a more women-led podcast, they are much more willing to acknowledge that women can be just as crazy, weird, and fetishy as men. It isn't as big a problem now, but for years I would always get frustrated when the F Plus was reading something clearly written by a woman, but they always talked about how it was some crazy neck beard, only to be surprised when they came across confirmation that the person was, in fact, a woman.

That’s pretty widespread all through the internet. The r/relationships thread (where like half the regulars are women) has tons of people assuming the writer of the post is a man, and those posts usually clearly identify everyone’s genders in the title. I think it’s an age thing, the older the crowd the more likely you are to think everyone on a message board is a man just because of how it was back in the day.

Yeah, in addition to the different gender radio, EC also skews younger than mainline F Plus. And while the riduculists are all Old Internet, they're much more forums nerds than Livejournal types.

Weird fetishists writing posts as if they're women is also absolutely a thing though. It's less that women can't be weird sex freaks and more that women tend to be weird sex freaks in slightly different ways.

One of the weird internet discoveries I had that really changed my perspective on internet fetishes was when I found out that the vore community, which I always found to be one of the most insane and disturbing, has like a 50/50~ gender divide. Even if there are some people deliberately misrepresenting themselves, turns out a lot of women find the idea of eating people whole hot. Edit: the episodes that bugged me the most were the furry ones, because furcons have made the fact that a LOOOOT of women are furries plainly obviously, but there would be so many episodes where furries talked about using dildos and they always gawked and asked like "wait, are the using dildos anally?" I mean, there were some men maybe, but a gently caress ton were just women. Hiro Protagonist fucked around with this message at 22:13 on Nov 20, 2019 |

I'll be the first to admit we've done it too. Can't speak for anyone else but there's also been times where I've thought "you guys. This is definitely a lady." But i didn't say anything because i... didn't want to ruin the joke they were making? Like the e621/SoFurry doc I'm almost certain we mixed up at least two of them. But yeah there've been plenty of times where I've thought "that's a woman" "that's a gay man" "that's a lesbian" etc. etc. I think there's definitely a certain EDGE to the dude creeps that tips one off, like how there's a distinct unfamiliarity with the female body that comes with the dudes pretending to be a horny lady, but for sure there's tons of lady creeps. We're actually gonna be recording a doc featuring a lot of them this week! :P (fwiw: the jury's still out for me on nonbinary creeps. They're out there! My exposure is just far too limited to get that feel, y'know?)

I don't remember if the "imagine your favorite characters in terrible fetish situations" episode had any gendering, but the content there was 100% lady (or lady-style) creeps.

If I remember correct, it was always deliberately gender-neutral, which means it was probably mostly women or non-binary people, cause most creepy men don't seem to even consider that women would want to read their lovely fan porn.

I meant in the podcast, but yeah, the "scrupulously avoid any gendered body part references" thing was a huge tell that it was being written by people other than cis men.

I quite enjoy this aspect of the show. It almost feels like the podcasts are equal, one gayer, equally funny in differing ways, and more later 2000's internet rather than early 2000's internet. Even just looking at regdates for regulars, you registered in 2016 which is as different as SA was for me in 2010 (started reading 08) as it was from the pre-4chan days. Well, I'm an older millennial. Most of those nerds are just regular Millennials, though so you're right. I'm actually not sure I even remember why I registered here tbh! I didn't register for ballp.it until 2017, which was mere months after i started listening to the f plus. I've been around, just mucking about different parts of the internet, low profile-like... didn't really start paying attention to online garbage until 2005 though so my window is a little more livejournal whereas the other readers were much more Tumblr. I'm thinking about our regulars too... i think we have... one? cishet person? Very t/nb heavy too. We didn't really intend for that to happen tbh it just kinda did.

Oh yeah, same in terms of weird fic. A huge part of my memory for bizarre internet drama is bizarree gross fandom sex poo poo driven by ladies. Or just bizarre fanfic things driven by ladies in general like the Haitain earthquake fic in SPN, which had no sex (I think - Supernatural was never my thing). The idea that women can't be in to weird gross things has always been foreign to me tbh. The thread also introduced me to Extra Credit and I'm super glad for similar reasons mentioned above. I just finished the mpreg episode and like the Fplus one I got all nostalgic for my early internet days, when I could still be horrified by things like that. Actually the mpreg episodes are a great example of women being into weird gross sex things imo. Tulalip Tulips fucked around with this message at 04:59 on Nov 21, 2019 |

Generally if it’s something super loving gross that’ll get a reaction from sheer concept rather than being strangely presented or vividly described, it won’t make the episode.
