The reactions to that comic are the only proof you need that it's absolutely correct.

its weird how rich people now think "just make it big" is somehow gunna make the house a satisfying like a palace

try hiring a world class architect and using materials other than drywall, make it an actual piece of art you live in not just ten poor people's houses put together, one on top of the other, with no rhyme or reason. At least when you die it can be a museum not a blight on the land

yeah the place looks more like a hotel or fancy convention hall than a home. ive been in places like this for work and they're just so bleak that if i had to live there year round id kill myself. of course i'd also be rich so could go wherever i wanted.

i don’t want to wade into tea leaf reading to decide if i think contrapoints thinks NB is “valid” or not, but what i do think she inherently understands that her detractors do not is that you cannot shame somebody into genuinely espousing your ideology. you may temporarily shame compliance into them, but it’s only going to seed resentment, which is probably why she’s become “more of an rear end in a top hat”. meanwhile she has years of highly informative video content that is the polar opposite of “if you ask me questions about my identity then you’re questioning my identity”

Yeah, but see, actively collaborating with people who genuinely hate you isn't the same thing as having a different perspective from you.

Some of it is ppl PBFing, but some is less "stupid" and more "people who are literally the guy on the left, and dont see anything wrong with it". Theres a bunch of liberals and even some "Leftists" whose politics are an excuse to poo poo on people and feel superior.

Originally the term was applied to work contexts (for example hostesses and airline attendants becoming depressed because they essentially get "cheerfuliness fatigue") but it got extended to unpaid emotional labor and is now further overgeneralized to "putting effort into not being a shitheel".

emotional labor absolutely makes sense to describe the expectation of service people constantly having to smile and put up with customer bullshit. in a social context it is significantly less useful

I get why it gets squishy; women shoulder a disproportionate amount of the unpaid labor in maintaining a household and some portion of that labor involves emotion management but it starts to come across as "I should be compensated for not beating my children"

i would say that domestic labor is its own thing and the consistent socialist position is that household management should be paid work, and also does not require a chipper attitude

now as far as parents having a loving connection to their children and not being emotionally negligent goes, all children should be raised in state child creches so the term again becomes irrelevant

The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearm magnate William Wirt Winchester. It is a designated California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is privately owned and serves as a tourist attraction.
it is, perhaps, the most american house.

America is a big place with a lot of ill-conceived architecture

since we're on the subject of castles, I've always like the Charles Piggott house (aka Piggott's Castle), which was built in Portland, OR in 1892 by a total crank (who among other things claimed the cure for fatness was two bananas between meals and before bed, and you should only bathe once a month to preserve essential body oils) who used materials from his brick company (he lost it to foreclosure shortly after "completing" construction)

the internal layout is actually significantly more sane than you would expect (the turret was also at one point converted for use as a sauna)
