its weird how rich people now think "just make it big" is somehow gunna make the house a satisfying like a palace try hiring a world class architect and using materials other than drywall, make it an actual piece of art you live in not just ten poor people's houses put together, one on top of the other, with no rhyme or reason. At least when you die it can be a museum not a blight on the land

i don’t want to wade into tea leaf reading to decide if i think contrapoints thinks NB is “valid” or not, but what i do think she inherently understands that her detractors do not is that you cannot shame somebody into genuinely espousing your ideology. you may temporarily shame compliance into them, but it’s only going to seed resentment, which is probably why she’s become “more of an rear end in a top hat”. meanwhile she has years of highly informative video content that is the polar opposite of “if you ask me questions about my identity then you’re questioning my identity”

Animal-Mother posted:ah, i knew there was a reason that term was bothering me. couldn't quite put my finger on it. Originally the term was applied to work contexts (for example hostesses and airline attendants becoming depressed because they essentially get "cheerfuliness fatigue") but it got extended to unpaid emotional labor and is now further overgeneralized to "putting effort into not being a shitheel".

emotional labor absolutely makes sense to describe the expectation of service people constantly having to smile and put up with customer bullshit. in a social context it is significantly less useful
