Farmer Crack-rear end posted:I remember hearing a bit on OPB... last year? where they were talking about some county in Southern Oregon, in which rural fire services were largely provided by private departments. There was reportedly some issue where people were getting financially burned because subscribers to one of the departments would call for help, and then the other department would get there first and bill them the non-subscriber rate. The guy being interviewed then said "but we don't necessarily want big gov't solutions either, so it's tough." That sounds like one of the even banjo-er deep red counties out east of here with like 400 people in them.

If you are independent or do not choose a party on your registration you can't participate in the primary. Only the general elections.

In a blow to Amazon, the socialist candidate Kshama Sawant appeared on Saturday to have beaten the business-backed Egan Orion for a seat on Seattle city council, despite an unprecedented financial effort from the tech giant. Why did Amazon spend $1.5m in Seattle's local elections? Hamilton Nolan Read more Amazon is headquartered in the city. It ploughed $1.5m into the city council election through a political action committee sponsored by the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Civic Alliance For A Sound Economy dispensed about $440,000 in support of Orion and backed six other candidates considered business-friendly. In 2015, according to the New York Times, Amazon and its employees only contributed about $130,000 to city council candidates. Sawant, a member of the Socialist Alternative party and a former tech worker, was elected six years ago as the first socialist on the Seattle council in almost 100 years. On election night she trailed Orion by 8%. But as more ballots were counted she closed the gap, and by Friday evening, with the vast majority of ballots counted, she was up by almost 4%, or about 1,500 votes. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/nov/09/seattle-amazon-kshama-sawant-socialist-elections

If you are at all worried about what will happen to the city because of Amazon, I'd highly recommend looking out for what happens in the incoming lame duck session where the only Amazon-bought candidate takes over (Alex in D4) for the interim while the new seat holders (Tammy D2, Dan D6, Andrew D7) have to wait until January. The budget may get held up to allow for a final punch to the gut.

Before even calling, you can check your voter info online here https://voter.votewa.gov/WhereToVote.aspx If that all looks correct, call them and see what's up because something probably went wrong. If it's wrong you can update your info online if you have a WA driver's license.

Also if you get issued a new drivers license the state has a new system for issuing license #s that doesn't rely on the first five letters of your last name followed by your first and middle initials. Apparently that was a pretty big security flaw and people were able to guess license #s easily.

Additionally, it is a bit of a pain in the rear end, but if all other options have been used, Washington has same day voter registration on election day. The drawback however is you have to go to one of the polling stations/county voter offices to do it. Which not everyone has the resources to do.

Did anyone else get their King County voter Registration Card? I've never received one of these before and I can only imagine that this is a direct response to voter rolls being purged in other states. I even spent the time to cut it out and put it in my wallet because it actually reassures me even though I vote by mail and don't even go to the polls.

I live in Congressional District 2 in WA and today I got a donation request from someone wanting to primary Rick Larson, Jason Call. From looking at his website his policies look like it would fit in well with Rep. Jayapal so I thought I should advertise it here in case anyone else is interested in trying to get a more progressive congress.

It’s rather refreshing to see that after the relatively large hikes in Marysville property taxes, folks on Nextdoor are actually looking forward to the increased investments in schools and the fire department.
