If people are looking for some kind of space to organise that isn't reliant on a provider I'm happy to setup a privately hosted Mattermost (open source Slack alternative) instance. I understand that a random lurker offering to do that should set off alarm bells (and rightly so) but the offer is there.

Am I right in thinking most of the people purged from twitter today were on their second or third account? Could be they've tightened up their "detecting people who were previously banned" algorithm.

That oval office Toby Young in the Spectator posted:Prince Andrew should have married someone like my wife This is astounding. When I saw Toby Young's tweets about this article my first thought was "Has he been hacked?" I know Toby Young is extremely stupid, but I didn't think he was this stupid. Defending Prince Andrew now shows unbelievably poor judgement, which is ironic because this entire article is about how Toby Young has poor judgement and wouldn't be able to tie his own shoes without his wife to help him. Did he run this article by her? Did he not worry that it might be a bit provocative? He says he does that, but surely there is no loving way she would have approved of this. Are we going to get a follow-up article where Toby laddishly complains that he is now in the doghouse for defying the old ball and chain? "I'm in hot water because I am a gigantic moron, but my wife should've protected me from the consequences of my actions. It's actually her fault, just like Prince Andrew's actions are Fergie's fault for not stopping him." He also chuckles at people for obliviously green lighting content that makes them look like fools while doing exactly the same thing in this loving article. And that's not even touching on the Toadmeister – who founded a Free School, remember – implying that he would behave the same way Prince Andrew did if nobody stopped him...

By the standards of bourgeois and aristo society, molesting children isn't actually a crime. It's a character building tradition that the lower orders aren't allowed to participate. Isn't that the point of all of those boarding schools? You send your son there, he gets buggered senseless, and then he becomes prime minister.

From what I'm reading this a full-length game too, not another VR gimmick sandbox. Kind of a shame it's only for VR though.

If it actually controls as well as it looks then that might be what finally sells me on buying a VR kit. I can't wait for them to release a second, even more genre defining title, then drop the entire concept forever. Valve are the drive-by shitposters of videogaming.

VR is weird because I basically look at it the same way I look at, like, yachts or whatever. Probably fascinating in some way but entirely for people who live in a different world. Or like those silly expensive designer clothes or whatever. Sure there's some people really into it but it's just not for normal people.

https://twitter.com/bbcquestiontime/status/1197651546940608514 Richard Burgon isn't a great communicator. He really just could've stuck to the topic here instead of crowbarring in stuff about billionaires. Or flat out said "if you're on 80k, you'll be paying an extra £8 a month so people don't die on the streets, so kids don't go to school hungry, so grannies aren't dying of urosepsis on trollies in hospital corridors. If that's too much for you to pay, just loving abstain from the vote you utter oval office". The audience guy was a moron and really handed this to Burgon by flat out denial of reality and he still kinda flubbed it.
