Ibram Gaunt posted:How do you get new steam injectors in the base campaign of tome? I need a new steam implant so I can actually use both my sustains but I dunno how to get more since they aren't in shops like they are in EoR. Find them as random loot (rare that you'll get one with decent stats) or buy them from the automated vendor, which can only be accessed after rescuing a Lost Tinker escort quest and choosing the last reward option... or install the mod that adds tinker stores to Last Hope.

Ah...It seems the tinker NPC won't spawn if you are a tinker (I used a escort selector addon to get tinkers on other guys, and I could choose it but it just made my first escort a random one instead...) And you can't use new addons midgame so I guess I'm just going to have to tough it out for now.

I think I'll make a new thread for ToME seeing as it's getting a bit more interest post 1.6. Any good title suggestions? As much as I'd like to title it "Tales of Maj'eyal: I assume this is a Razakai class?" that's a bit self indulgent. (p.s. I have a bunch of anni fixes ready to merge now, but nerfs and buffs will come later. turrets are certainly stronger now though just by being less dumb!)

Jedit posted:More TOME Kombat: Annihilation It's not too complicated, just shoot mans and don't get hit. If you want a solid, basic build, just get split shot or dart for your weapon, the assault body, any shield but bastion, and then take all the red upgrades except siege and charged shot (which are very powerful, but dangerous and generally bad for fast-firing guns, respectively).

I can't remember the specifics, but IIRC it wasn't too difficult to get 100% uptime on the speed bonuses from both Trueshot and Bullseye. That's in addition to nerfs to various damage numbers

Jedit posted:Can someone tell me more about how to get started? If you want some absurd funtimes try considering that talk of shields and weapon upgrades and do the exact opposite: take Pulse or Flak weapon and Hullbreaker ship and get Rapid Reconstruction and all the hull/speed upgrades and just headbutt the entire universe to death. Crash builds get even more bonkers once you've got Hidden Power and Dying Star unlocked and can set everything on fire (including yourself) which lets you ignore all the wimpy enemies that only exist long enough to get vaporized, in favor of stacking enough crash damage to oneshot the big things. Other than "Nova Drift's tutorial ends when you unlock Mayhem difficulty" just play until you find whatever is fun for you. There are a lot of ways to roll, and Wild Metamorphosis is explicitly intended to make it more roguish and less predictable as to what mods you get, so it might be better to leave that off until you've got a feel for when to reroll or which mods to take in a given order. silentsnack fucked around with this message at 20:11 on Nov 24, 2019 |

Bows also no longer have a default 125% attack speed, which is a huge difference and was always a little goofy, and the Munitions tree is gone because it had just one too many shenanigans in a class with a lot of shenanigans going on. The class still has a really robust kit (the Reflexes tree is your friend,) it just didn't need 5 different sources of speed stacking on top of an already fast base attack speed.

Your first few hours will mostly be learning the basic mechanics. It'll feel like a pretty basic shmup at first, but it really kicks into overdrive once you've unlocked more gear/mods/challenges. I spent a lot of time just finding out what weapons I liked while getting as many of the weapon mods as possible and ignoring most anything else. Real boring way to play, looking back. If there are gear/mods that make you think "why would I ever want this?", do a quick google/Youtube search to see if anyone's come up with a build for it. Seeing awesome builds in action is a surefire way to start thinking more creatively. I barely even touched constructs or crash damage until yesterday, and today they gave me my top two scoring runs. Shmups aren't typically my style, but I've already clocked 22 hours after learning about this game's existence and buying it on sale this week. It has so much mechanical depth and while being super fast-paced, which is my crack. It's so easy to spend 20 minutes on a good run, die abruptly, then go "ok, one more try". And suddenly it's 5 hours later. This Youtube channel's great for inspiration and showing off what crazy poo poo you can pull.

My absolute best run was in this vein. I went with a crash build, but kept my shield and focused on breaking the shield, with both upgrades that cause massive explosions when your shield breaks, and then rapidly getting it back up. No weapon, just shield explosions and collision damage. I ended up walking away from the game, and it still took 3 or 4 minutes without any input from me before the ship exploded. And this was when the game was tossing multiple bosses at a time at me. As a newer player, I found that drone and ally builds were the most reliable for me. Favorite run was going for the achievement to launch a certain number of salvo missiles at once, and using drones and allies to make up the damage while I saved missiles.

You can make almost anything in ND work if you're crazy enough. I just broke a million with a build that had no weapon and instead killed things with the Halo shield (which does constant burning damage) and a ton of shield-damage-retaliation mods. My standard way of killing bosses was to blink inside of them, taking big chunks of damage in the process (normally if you want to crash into stuff you get a super-tough hull and/or disposable flash shields; I did neither of those), but triggering my retaliation shields repeatedly and instantly vaporizing the boss. Just about the only things that you can't make work in the long run are the Helix shield (which is apparently going to be completely reworked) and poor unloved Salvo. e: Well, there is a Salvo build, which I would describe as "do your best to pretend you're not using Salvo." megane fucked around with this message at 03:57 on Nov 25, 2019 |

Yeah Salvo was fun to me at first but eventually you're just making a construct build and if you're doing that you're probably better off using Blade. It's a cool idea for a weapon though and I hope they find a way to make it more viable

I like using salvo while putting together a crash damage build. It takes care of a lot of early game BS without requiring any investment into weapon trees. Of course, that's not quite the same as having a salvo-focused build. The thing that seems pointless to me right now is the

Anyone play a Temporal Warden recently in TOME? It says the Arrow Stitching ability will swap to my bow if I have one in the other slot but it doesn't work, says I need a bow equipped. The Blade one that swaps instantly from bow to daggers works though.

Thought I'd broken something via modding but 1.6/1.6.1 may have changed something. e: apparently others have reported the same issue as well... http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=50255 e2: as mentioned in that thread it looks like the problem is with Embers, because disabling it makes warden instaswap work again. silentsnack fucked around with this message at 20:29 on Nov 25, 2019 |
