A few more perks and quirks have been added since that should speed it up a bit. You will also be getting a new feature from Exile v1 next major patch which should also speed things up. The fact is you are at the end of the current content and pacing is normally good enough that people are just finishing it as the next patch hits, which means it's slow.

I made a post about this a month or so ago; i don't remember the specifics any more. It was certainly not a month and a half between Exile v3 and v4

Part of getting over the v3 to v4 hump is it's the first time where you really do need to buy adventure stats. You also really need to be running the x3 R3 24 hour potions pretty much nonstop. If you aren't you are leaving a lot of hacks on the table, and they are the largest source of adventure stats. I did this with 3 day rebirths on the weekend and 24h rebirths on the weekday, if you did all 24h and splurged on some beast butter you could probably do it in a month.

None of the games that deserve the awards will win them because the Steam awards are intentionally so poorly organised so that games which deserve multiple awards like Baba is You or Disco Elysium actually have less chance of winning any of them. Skyrim's getting another award regardless.

Alkahistorian is bizarre, a Frankenstein combination of Cultist Simulator and Factorio, the sole gameplay being turning things on and off to make numbers flow in the right direction, and I haven't been able to tear myself away from it for 2 days.  (I'm currently building a perfectly still tornado in order to turn sulfur and plastic into acid)

You gain adventure stats with each rebirth from beards/fruit so I was pretty consistently doing 24hr rebirths through that point in the game, making gradual progress with each rebirth and upgrading fruits along the way. I've really only just this long weekend experimented with doing a longer rebirth and I'm just now starting to be able to manual Exile V1 after about 3 days.

Edit: Actually the more I play the less I like it because it feels completely inscrutable. Anyone playing Idle Champions? Am a bit confused about the various modes in which to get chests. Like I can play Krull free play for 1000 candles and get a (random, whatever that means) Krull chest, or I can also play a difficult variant for the same candle price... and also get a chest? Like why would I not choose free play in that scenario?

I can't answer the question specifically, but usually in that sort of thing you get a special reward the first time you complete a mode, and a much-reduced award for replaying something you've already done. So you wouldn't do the difficult variant at first, but you would want to do it at some point to get that first-run reward.

Alternatively it could be that the free play costs 1000 dollarydoos the first time you play it, but has an escalating cost for further runs, meaning at some point you'll want to do the challenge mode to get a "cheap" chest.
