That's basically Bakugo's mom. Having slightly better complexion.

Deku's mom's power is pretty mundane too; the lightest amount of telekinesis.

Deku's mom has telekinesis strong enough to move pretty much any regular household objects around freely without strain.

It's not crazy top tier or anything, but it's pretty decent, and from what we see of trained vs untrained quirks, it probably could get strong enough for pro hero use.

It's not like David Shields having extra-bendy fingers or Bakugo's mom having naturally great skin. It's a genuine cool superpower that happens to be less amazing than most of the Actual Superhero ones we see in action.

Moreover, quirks are like muscles. If you exercise them they get stronger. Deku's mom could have been a terror if she'd gone that way. Bakugo's mom, not so much.

her quirk is basically moisturizer, and it combined with Bakugo's dad's quirk of acidic sweat to create literal explosions

Sometimes people can shoot fire out of their hands, sometimes they can just turn water into vinegar. Quirks are weird that way.

Yeah iirc All Might mentioned that quirklessness was more common when he was younger, and the impression I get is that quirks are not a recent enough phenomenon that he could be referring to people born before quirks started appearing.

He said while it was not as rare nowadays it was still pretty uncommon.

Quirks have been going on for I think 5 generations now. As Izuku's mother was a 4th generation.

The average strength of Quirks seems to be rising as they combine and cross-breed due to people with different quirks having children who have hybrid quirks.

Is this the "Quirk Singularity"? Will MHA eventually turn into Double Cross?

You think you have the wherewithal to figure out my puzzle vagina?
If Deku wasn't quirkless, given that his dad can breathe fire and his mom can cast Mage Hand at will, do you think his quirk would be pyrokinesis? Because that would make for a really interesting rivalry both with Bakugo and with Todoroki.

Given the amount of specific Quirk training the characters go through in the series, I think the implication is that the average person doesn't really bother developing their quirks at all, especially if it isn't immediately apparently powerful like Bakugo's exploding sweat.

Seems reasonable... it would probably have been something like that. He would've probably had a totally different experience growing up, since that's basically the Fireman Quirk.

Maybe he'd have been the one challenging to get out of General Studies and into the hero course.

It could also be framed to reinforce the "Deku is a good rescue hero, Bakugo is a good combat hero, both of them are lacking half of being Number One" theme.

Edit: Wasn't Horikoshi's original hero name idea for Deku "Devil Kid"? Because that'd actually fit really well.

There is unsurprisingly already a kind of interesting fanfiction with this idea. Izuku and Bakugo have just as bad a relationship because Bakugo finds Izuku to be parasitic, needing his explosions or other sources of fire to function.

My weird thought was ways that Izuku’s dad could have the same visible quirk but different mechanical sources. So for example instead of being an emitter fire breath it’s a stockpile firebreath. Where either he needs to eat spicy food or drink alcohol to provide the fuel. So Izuku could have a weird stockpile quirk too from that.

Yeah in the first episode Inko says her husband breathes fire. My comment was more everyone assumes it to be emitter style firebreathing so I was thinking of alternatives.

Nephthys
Mar 27, 2010

There are theories of course that he hasn't appeared yet because Horikoshi is setting up a big reveal for Deku's dad like that he's a villain. Given how much he loves Star Wars the leading crackpot theory is that he'll be All for One for the Vader reference and fire-breathing is just one of his quirks.

His name was dropping in an omake and is (spoilered just in case?) Hisashi and since Horikoshi loves puns his name basically translates to "It's been a while since I saw you".

my posts are as bad the Current Releases review of Gone Girl

You could probably do a fun little riff in the idea of bakugou and deku's situations being reversed, where Deku had his parents quirks combine into Basically Firebdnding and he's a cheerful hero prodigy for whom everything comes naturally, and Bakugou is the quirkless one who is pissed off all the time and spent his entire youth physically conditioning himself to be a quirkless hero before meeting All Might.

Would Bakugo be getting One for All in this scenario? Because I think he'd have to mellow out a bit before All Might would consider him

Or is this a world where Mirio gets it, and Deku and Bakugo develop a little more naturally as heroes - still getting dragged into conflicts when they stumble into them rather than actively looking for them because the plot demands conflict

That Deku idea reminds me that an early concept for Bakugou would be that he was a super nice guy who would inadvertently insult people while trying to help.

Pretty sure the subtext was it was a fantasy for deku, the same way a kid might want to grow up to be a lawyerdoctorscientist. It wasnt actually going to happen, and if you really pressed him on it he probably knew that, until all might stepped in and made it possible

quirkless bakugo would be interesting

he'd have the will to become a hero even without powers, but unless not having a quirk drastically changes him he'd also lack the long term planning to actually make it happen

deku's smart enough that he could have been a vigilante without a quirk (just batman that poo poo), but he had pretty much given up already
