To a certain extent you believe in it. you may be right about this, but considering that conservatives are never subtle about things, i'd figured ben would have spelled out not-obama's evil plan a bit more. btw, can i also just point out how legitimately TERRIBLE of a writer benny is? i mean, completely ignoring the rightiwing jizz fantasy aspect of it. i'm just talking about the WAY he writes. he constantly repeats adjectives when describing something, in many cases, within the same paragraph. like, it's just functionally bad english writing. didn't this turd go to UCLA AND harvard?

It feels like a bunch of lame justifications that they don't even believe themselves. They like him because he's an rear end in a top hat that ownz the libz. They have to make up some excuses or other for people that aren't impressed by that, except they can't make good ones because he's an aggressively incompetent moron that spends his whole day golfing and watching TV, so instead we're supposed to impressed by perfunctory efforts like rubber-stamping judicial nominations picked by someone else, and for not aggressively tanking the economy. I'm still betting next year that there will be some "deal" that just amounts to rolling back his own stupid tariffs, which will give the market a nice bump, and all his defenders will demand that he gets credit for his amazing dealy deal that really just amounts to the 2016 status quo minus the incessant self-dick-punching that the same people spent years defending. Those Republican SNL skits, god drat they don't even bother to understand how comedy works. Its impossible because comedy requires self reflection and being aware of the world to make observations. Cons as so deep in the coal mine of their echo chamber that they are stuck making the same hoary old jokes about Trigger Warnings and poo poo. When leftist comedians make fun of conservatives, its because they know what cons are doing because they're shouting it from the roof tops. They can make jokes about how Trump is literally using Side Show Bobs defense of "Attempted Murder? Do they give Noble Prizes for Attempted Chemistry???". There's also the stuff how they cannot punch up or even themselves or sideways, which are the only kinds of comedy that work. They can only punch down which just comes off as mean. I wish I could dig up the article, but some Conservative journalist was very upset to discover that it seems that "owning the libs" is more important than anything else to most other conservatives these days. He talked about how during the recent election here in Canada he would go to meetings for the Conservative Party and note people's number one reason was to piss off liberals, who they assume everyone outside of Alberta is. Economics and Healthcare, all that stuff took a back seat to making sure pipelines went though some hippies flowerbed in BC or something else childish.

BiggerBoat posted:I listened to an NPR interview today with the owners of Fusion GPS that came off as sourced, reasonable and factual but my biggest takeaway from it was thinking that anyone who really needs to listen to it will never hear it and the terrible realization that for maybe 40% of the country just the name "Fusion GPS" = "Deep State boogeyman" and how many people think this is real. I mean, you can just lump in "Fusion GPS" with "Soros" and, at this stage of the game, 1/3 of the country will connect the dots FOR you and assume it as abject truth. Yeah that interview is good - they've been doing the media rounds to promote their book, and they're not shy to point out the only reason they're able to talk about so much of what they did and what they found is because the Republicans spent two years disseminating everything, otherwise they probably couldn't have written the book. One thing I didn't know is that it was a Republican staffer that leaked the loving Steele dossier - I didn't know we knew who leaked it, and it being a Republican is just gravy (a McCain staffer sent it to BuzzFeed or whoever put it online). My one gripe is that, despite hearing a half dozen or so interviews, not a single person has asked them about the pisstape.
