Oh, sure, but like... that's my problem, I don't like the idea that he had total control and everything went according to plan, when the set-up and results are way more satisfying and interesting if he didn't totally set everything in motion.

Plus the mythological Coyote was hardly known for always having the last laugh.

that's kinda his whole character in the comic, he's the guy who sits in the background steepling his fingers and going "mwahaha all according to plan" at whatever the other characters do, and if that doesn't make any sense that's ok cause he's a chaos god and can just do whatever for no particular reason.

it's a really poo poo character yes

Let's do the space-time warp again!

I have always assumed that Coyote is the kind of person who will gleefully tell everyone that he definitely set up this situation where he's getting murdered and then deliberately forgot about it for the surprise than admit to anyone (probably even himself) that he isn't as great and powerful as he thinks he is. You could believe him that he is the ultimate manipulator, but it's also possible that he's just a narcissistic dick who refuses to admit when he's lost, and chaos is just the natural outcome when you are more willing to immediately switch sides/narratives than admit to any setback. He's just the ultimate rolling with the punches puppet master power poster.

I admit that I can't say if this is textually born out or if he has consistently actually been shown to be always ahead/in control, though.

A Wizard of Goatse

he's omnipotent and you're never going to get a straightforward picture of what he was trying to do so there's functionally no difference between the two. When his grand scheme is foiled it's always going to be with a "...or was it???" wink and a nudge and it's just so tiresome.

I'm honestly really bored by SSSS right now. There's no real stakes, they're just following Onni because... They have nothing better to do, I guess? I get that they want to help Lalli, but it feels thin and aimless. I really hope there's something more that drives the plot soon, the first adventure was able to do that quite well.

At this point in the first book the crew was still just messing around in the ruins of copenhagen and looting books without any real pressure on them, and had only just been introduced to Reynir. The stakes there only really rose by chapter 9 and 10 when the failed cure and the spirits that resulted from it were introduced.

Yeah but at least they had a purpose and were in uncharted territory. Now... I dunno, I feel like the characters are just spinning their wheels.

A Wizard of Goatse

their purpose was pretty much they had nothing better to do to begin with. it's not like their book hunt was critically important or anything, those nerds asked and it was an excuse to get outside for once.

Rotten Red Rod

They had a mission, and although the mission goal wasn't an important one, it was still a good reason for them to travel out and explore the world. We also had the dynamics of building the team, seeing the forming friendships, and the tension of things going steadily wrong and getting them stranded.

Now... There's none of that. Sorry, it's not at all the same as the first part. I'm willing to stick with it but I find myself less and less compelled by it each day. I don't know why they are doing this. They barely know Onni. He's not critical to anything they need to do (which is currently nothing). They should have convinced Lalli to let him go. Instead they just all followed him for [reasons].

It's still really, really pretty. And the worldbuilding is still good. I'm willing to stick with it and see where it's going, but it's a bit frustrating.

"Go on until you're stopped."
Onni has probably gone out there to die, and there was a non-zero chance that Lalli would have followed him. They can't communicate well enough with Lalli to prevent him with any certainty.

Onni rescued them several times though and he wouldn't be out there at all if Tuuri hadn't died. Sigrun feels like it was her fault, Lalli feels guilty and doesn't have any other family left, and Reynir must be coping with survivors' guilt right now. They just haven't articulated this in awhile.

So, Mare Internum just ended. I really enjoyed it, very much worth a read, and you can probably go through it in an afternoon if you haven't read it before. A great sci-fi exploration of the reality of mental health issues.

Thoughts/questions: Whose hand was Michael gripping in this memory? Was there someone else he was close to on the mission? I was under the impression Levi was the only one he really connected with.

And on the last panel - I guess it's open to interpretation, but I wonder if Kalla/The Processor has died, or if it's part of Michael now?

He has over 10,000 patreons so must be easily making at least six figures a year, not to mention whatever he is getting from google adds as his excuse for self censoring, etc. I am very much all for supporting artists getting paid, but if you check the page, it comes off sleazy as hell. Like "support my rich people mistakes so I can keep making them" kind of sleazy, not "starving artist trying to make it" sort of thing.

This is a pro click, I liked it a lot. Just the right length too. I'd have liked one laaaast touch base with bex (& levi?) at the end, maybe just as simple as seeing her in one of the suits, but otherwise it was great

as for your question
There was a flashback much earlier with him on a fishing trip with someone, purposely kept just out of frame on any close ups, but alone with him while making Levi https://www.marecomic.com/comic/ch3-page-35/
Might've been that person, if we want to take the "memory" part as literal as possible.

I could also see it just be a memory of a dream, that relates back to what the whole ship thing is calling back to https://www.marecomic.com/comic/ch3-page-48/

I believe it's Dr. Braid, mentioned here and confirmed by Der-Shing in various comments to have been a very close friend of Mike's and the person who helped develop Levi. She's also the person shown in that Earth memory of Levi's. It's never really touched on what happened to her, but given that she isn't headed back to Earth and isn't around anymore, maybe she died and that set off Mike's self-destructive spiral? I'm unsure how Bex wouldn't have heard of that, though.

Found the answer in some comments, from Der-Shing: https://www.marecomic.com/comic/ch4-page-37/

2. Dr. Braid was Mike’s old partner on the LEVi project (the engineer), who was reassigned to another group elsewhere cuz Mike sucks. The Y stands for Young-Jin

And clarification on whose hand it is: https://www.marecomic.com/comic/ch5-page-66/

The actual friend in this scene isn’t important, but if it matters it’s Dr. Braid (who is not dead- just left for a different position and never appears in the comic except once here). As far as the sentiment goes, the hand that reaches out to comfort and connect with you could belong to anyone.

So yeah, it's just about accepting help and comfort and not a particular relationship.

If you go back a few years in the artist's tumblr, you can see links to Tigress Queen on tapas, and a DeviantArt post about TQ coming back and a comment about it being 'back in the public'. I can't seem to find the strips that were originally on Tapas. Judging from an old tweet of hers, she dropped Tapas when they modified their TOS that had questionable intellectual property issues and were hostile towards long-form, non-scrolling comics like hers.

I haven't been able to find any of her old Tapas strips, so it's possible she's just reposting the originals. Though, that wouldn't really explain 6-month breaks.
