Why didn't the first order just have some of their fleet hyperspace jump ahead and then get the resistance fleet in a pincer.

TLJ really gave me the impression they were coming with their entire fleet. Guess not!

You can, the resistance can't turn instantly and if they turn to go, for instance, "up" the first order can turn to take the hypotenuse of the two vectors and gain considerable ground

The Resistance can't turn instantly but what makes you think that once out of hyperspace the First Order's ships can accelerate more quickly than the Resistance can change course? Particularly when it is literally called out that maneuverability is the Resistance fleet's advantage?

edit: also, I'm pretty sure that micro hyperspace jumps or very closely plotted hyperspace jumps are much trickier in these new movies, hence why the jump into Starkiller was considered so suicidal and why the first order didn't just also warp in closer to the resistance fleet in the first place

magnetically propelled bombs. what else would those rails they are on be for?

could have been from any angle but because it was high orbit obviously it would be from the 'top' for visual coherence

Each has a crew size of 46,785.
I roughly counted 112 ships in the pic, so about 5 million troops here in this pic.

And the Rebellion has 1 ship and about 20 people.

Accepting that Palpatine did some kind of weird Sith magic to rise from the dead is a much easier buy-in to me than him just hanging out in exile with a seven figure number of highly trained loyalist troops and crewmen on hundreds of ships just waiting at his respawn point.

I mean what, he stashed an entire second Imperial fleet and army in the Unknown Regions during his reign just as a contingency? And if we buy that, then all those Sith Troopers and starship captains gotta be in their what, 60's, 70's?

(Not the first time this theory has happened.)

They have to have enough ships that they could send some to the planet the rebels are headed toward, right? The rebels can maneuver all they want until the tanks run dry.

So the First Order must not have those ships.

It seems like the Casino Planet People probably have more ships and guns than the First Order - since they're the ones supplying both sides - so they could put down this whole thing anytime they want.

We can therefore conclude that the rest of the galaxy just leave these people alone because they're assholes. They're bleeding Leia dry of her trust fund by continually selling Darth Vader memorabilia and Chinese knockoff Trade Federation knockoff lightsabers to her son. The planets the first order blew up were already marked for demolition anyway, considering they were hauled into visual range of each other.

The new trilogy are literal trust fund babies fighting over a garbage pile.

Palpatine actually did die, but as a force ghost he went down to the forest moon of Emdor and possessed the fetus of Kylo Ren and then just laid low for a few decades. That's why Kylo's actions are so inexplicable, sometimes he's controlled by a force ghost.
