tankie is where you oppose us interventionism and when you support the governments that the us is trying to do interventions in you're even more of a tankie, so naturally modern tankies would fully support nazi germany and the japanese empire

Okay this will be a little long form and requires me to translate a lot of stuff, but it just reached levels of insanity I'm unable to contain without sharing with people here At one point or another a few months ago, I don't even remember what started it, people began making waves around the statue of Marshal Ivan Konev standing in district 6 of Prague (Czech Republic) since 1980 Konev had some merit during World War 2 and maybe wasn't even a war criminal? Who knows at this point. Anyway, issue is, after World War 2, some of his responsibilities were to keep Warsaw pact countries toeing the line, he was directly responsible for some ugly stuff in Hungary (even though AFAIK nothing in Czech Republic specifically anymore) so lot of people consider him a face of the Soviet oppression and occupation and think he doesn't deserve a statue here. There was some chat about what to do about it, it did get vandalized (splashed with paint mostly?) a couple times, eventually the district 6 assembly decided to remove it This really pissed the Russians off! There was lot of ambassador summoning and explanation demanding and "you should get your nazifash under control, lesser slavs" coming from the Russians. It has been going for like a couple months on and off, various people on either side running their mouth about this or that other guy and so forth and so forth. Now last week the mayor of district 6 decided to take it up a notch a officially suggested that Prague should erect a new memorial commemorating the soldiers of Russian Liberation Army who were a Russians who fought the Red Army during WWII, collaborating with Nazi Germany instead. His justification for erecting them a memorial in Prague is that they did ultimately turn on Wehrmacht and fought against them, allegedly in effort to redeem themselves to the west and avoid the sheer wrath of Red Army. They did fight on the side of the Czech resistance during liberation of Prague from the retreating Germans. A Russian state TV invited the Prague 6 mayor to a debate. He essentially spent that while calling them liars and idiots. It was pretty great on its own but the real juice is in the monologue the guy who's some kinda equivalent of lesser Russian Trump had after the interview ended https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyRYT6CL2Z4 Moderator: "What are we to do? How should we react to this? A sovereign, foreign country. We have no relations with them. And they want Vlasov. [the leader of the Russian Liberation Army]. They've decided so." Zhirinovsky: "Stalin's mistake from 1945." "He should have placed a real occupation army of 100 000 to Poland, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, and a million to Germany." "And to shut them all up, so they'd stay shut to this day, and another hundred years." "And what have we done?" "Us to them; "Build socialism." - they don't want to, they aren't communists." "They're proprietors. We forced a regime foreign to them on." "If they had to cope with our army, they wouldn't think of Vlasov at all." "because - they'd have choices. All industry would be moved to Russia." "Change Germany, according to Churchill's plan, to an agrarian homestead, without a state. Let them grow potatoes." "Let Czechs make sausage, brew beer. That's all." *quiet applause* We had the right to do that. They've all been the aggressors. They all pushed east against USSR. All of them! The entire eastern Europe. All of them, except Portugal [???] and Greece. "We should have punished them all." "Even Churchill would agree, and so would Roosevelt, and so would Truman." "But please, we've chosen differently." " "Go build for yourself..." and we began to supply them, to feed them." "We took away from our people." " "Give German girls soup from the field kitchen... your own people, regular food!" [????]" "And you feed Germans, who burnt half the earth. Let them die! They wouldn't be here today." "And there would be no Czechs. Not to mention Ukraine." "And Vlasov wouldn't dare to something... He'd not come to Prague. The weirdo [meaning the Prague mayor] is lying."\ "He wanted to, the thought he could claim Czechia, slavs after all." "But Czechs chased him away, because they didn't want him, because tanks were nearing from Germany and helped liberate Czechia [It really didn't happen like this]" "Nevertheless, today to spite us, they retaliate against us, like Ukrainians, like Poles." "They want to bring down all Soviet monuments and to erect statues of traitors." ... [goes on for a while longer but it's not as fun anymore]

As for the statue, I guess it sucks for Konev's relatives that he's getting dragged through mud for things tangentially related to the event memorialized by the statue, but I guess that's the price you pay for living long enough to become a villain by enforcing Soviet power in occupied countries.
