Yeah, it's the worldwide nature of it - slapping someone around here (or even on Facebook) doesn't end up with a hundred people, most of whom I've never met/interacted with, hitting a little Skinner Box button for me. Or possibly it does and this is just the first time in my two decades of posting that I've actually done something people like.

Oh yeah, you're probably right - confusingly Chuka is standing in a seat called Cities of London and Westminster, I just saw those two words and had a schadengasm.

Nah I think you're getting wires crossed. It's the London-wide voting intention (they poll this separately sometimes) for the Westminster election. That's different from the Cities of London and Westminster which is staunchly Tory.

Jo Swinson won a court case saying she didn't recieve 14k from a fracking company.

She recieved it as a personal donation from the head of a fracking company via her campaign office, which is totally fine and not at all concerning.

lol, like that's gonna help her. She's managed to stick a finger into the dam while the squirrel army are laying explosives all over it :D

Not that staunchly, Labour were only 3k votes back at the last election and it's mahoosively Remain.

She recieved it as a personal donation from the head of a fracking company via her campaign office, which is totally fine and not at all concerning.

The reason she won is because the judge reckons that although the company is fully licensed for fracking they haven't actually done any fracking yet so they're technically not a fracking company.

Ending the hostile environment means being able to just go to the shops and get a meal deal without hoping the missus has left some cash for me.

Labour are getting rid of the DWP and replacing it with the old DSS. The most important thing is that they will be removing the back-to-work targets, which are one of the things forcing people in the welfare system to become sanction-happy.

Listen to the podcast and skip to the social security section if you have to, it's good stuff. They've genuinely thought about how to fix this.

I've read the document and it doesn't say anything about removing back-to-work targets.

It also says that they plan to bring assessments back in house, which means it will still be a case of proving to a bureaucrat that you deserve to exist.

Excuse me, pardon me, sheer perfection coming through

I grew up in the states but I’ve lived in Europe and now live in Canada. Anyone who argues for that sort of policy is evil, flat out. 1 in 4 Americans has foregone medical treatment because they were worried about the cost (and imagine that ratio once you take out all the people above a certain wealth threshold). When I was younger (now 30s for reference) we would get threatening letters in the mail about subscribing to the ambulance service so that we wouldn’t be charged hundreds or thousands in the case of an emergency. One Ohio town recently suggested stopping emergency services to any household who’d already called in one drug overdose.

Health is a human right.
