I don't think so. With the Reservoir Dogs he seemed to have melded their bodies into the surrounding wreckage, whereas with Magne and Compress he just straight up disintegrated them. With the former he still had the intact body parts to put them back together, not so much with the later.

Probably more destructive, right? Shiggy seems to need to keep a hold on you for at least a second for the decay to do too much damage. Overhaul just needs one good slap and you're a smear on the wall.

Remember that Overhaul goon Shiggy dusted during their first meeting at the start of the season? He just touched him and he instantly fell apart. Only reason Eraserhead survived during the USJ attack is because he erased his quirk just in time.

I often think about how a lot of the powers are wasted on being a better fight man. Like how the guy who can turn nuts and bolts gigantic could eliminate the need for mining or the girl who can make almost anything from her body should have a higher calling than crime fighting. Worst of all is the girl who becomes a super genius when she drinks tea. I can think of much better ways to use that then coming up with the optimal strategy for stopping a purse snatcher.

A lot of this is tied up in the fact that as far as we know even in the manga you need a hero license to use your quirk outside of private property or for work.

Ochako mentions that part of her desire to become a hero is to get licensed so she can also help her parent's business.

No that's for being a Hero. You can get a normal license for using your quirk in work related things. Her parents told her not to concern herself with that and to focus on her own dreams.

She wants to make a lot of money being a hero to give her parents a good life.

I do like how contact quirks like that are 'always on' and you can always see how Uraraka folds her fingers inwards to keep the pads from touching stuff/people when she doesn't want to use her quirk and Shigaraki always makes sure to keep one finger daintily lifted off of whatever he's touching. It makes them feel a lot more real than it just being a case of only triggering when they both touch something and consciously choose to use the quirk.

Uraraka wears mittens to bed too so that she doesn't accidentally float her whole bedroom in her sleep. Horikoshi is pretty on the ball about these kinds of neat details.

Uraraka also wears these big gloves that she straps to her hands when she's sleeping. So she doesn't, you know, make her bed float off.

I don't remember the exact quote, but Deku mentions that experts have said if quirks didn't manifest then humanity would be way further along than they are (like, exploring space in earnest).

So much effort is being expended keeping society in order and advancing science around/for quirks that even just maintaining the peace is hard enough and that's the reason more useful quirks aren't utilized better.

And also two of your examples are filler characters so maybe they didn't have as much forethought put into them (tea genius and nuts and bolts guy were both anime originals).

There's probably limits on their powers they didn't go into. Like nuts and bolts guy probably has a time limit and tea girl is still limited by what she knows.

But yes, Momo is a serious game breaker since she turns food into metal.

And now I'm thinking of how much faster and how much more horrifying Overhaul's methods could be if he had someone like Recovery Girl on his side.

If she starts when does she stop, does she commit her life to endless slavery pumping out infinite goods? Is it morally right to tell her she’s a monster for not dedicating her entire life to producing goods she would then have no control over where they go or how they’re distributed. Should she pick and choose the distribution herself, thus spending less time creating goods and having to effectively play god.

Also it literally uses her body’s fat, she’s not an infinite printing machine and if she overdoes it it will actually straight up kill her by burning all her body fat.

She could be using her power for entirely selfish means given how rich she is and instead chooses to become a superhero because she wants to help people. She just recognised that printing infinite items isn’t a good way to help because she doesn’t have enough understanding or knowledge to make that useful. Whereas it is very easy to know that say, I can create a heat resistant blanket to protect these people from a fire.

I wasn't thinking of her as a perpetual stuff generator, but more as a way to advance material sciences. She can produce things at a molecular level so she should be able to make really small things such as carbon nano tubes. She can also make complex things while having a genius level intelligence so I dont see why with enough research and trial she couldn't make something like a cup of nano machines.

She should be in a research lab with a well funded staff, not a fight mans

Deku's visible accomplishments during that same tournament mostly looked like him maiming himself to outside observers.

The entirety of his development up to this point has just been trying to figure out how to use his quirk without maiming himself or people around him!

I've been thinking for a while that Yaoyorozu and Uraraka should team up and create a space elevator. Turn food into the necessary materials, then send it into orbit cheaply and easily. They'd probably need an engineer to help design it, so maybe get Mei in on the group too (though I'd be terrified of the design she'd come up with).

Just three high school girls revolutionizing space travel and possibly solving the energy crisis in their spare time.

Really, I think MHA actually goes a bit beyond the minimum standard suspension of disbelief that's accepted for superhero settings by addressing this at all. By making it an actual point of the setting that societal paranoia around Quirks and the social unrest they created in previous generations has led to a culture that deliberately suppresses quirk usage outside of a handful of specific functions even when it would be obviously more efficient for various heroes to use their quirks to advance other industries instead of fighting crime.

Like, the fact it's mentioned at all is exceptional.
