I read that article, its because they don't want to say that yes, this will actually save people thousands of pounds every year but the numbers are generally solid so they cant find much in the way of threads to pull.

Yeah, it's hilarious how Chakrabortty or Monbiot or Elliot will be able to talk about how Labour's infrastructure or environment or overall economic policy will work, its strengths and weaknesses, the Graun's editorial staff just go "buhhhhhhh corBAD" and file.

I get the feeling it's a sliver of people who don't want the poor to starve, but feel threatened by the idea of the common working person having equal status with them. A softer, kinder elitism.

I’ve met three or four olds doing the Guardian handwringing act like this. Including one that literally chased me away while shouting ‘I was lifelong labour’ repeatedly. All of them told us they weren’t voting for us the last 2 elections. It’s just a learned response at this point.

There's a lot to be said about voices, speech patterns and socialisation, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to go into depth about it. As I understand it, women are socialised to speak from an upper part of their vocal range and men from a lower part, but the actual difference in average vocal range between them is smaller than you might think. There's also the thorny issue of how trans people relate to their voices. Trans men can take hormones to deepen their voices (but certainly shouldn't have to if they don't want to!) but trans women may have already gone through puberty and had irreversible changes to their voices. Vocal coaching is a thing, but it's not routinely funded by the NHS, and general support for trans and nonbinary people is absolutely shameful in the UK. Trans people have a lot to say about the Gender Identity Clinic, almost none of it good. It's underfunded even by the standards of the NHS right now, it's vastly understaffed and some of those staff are entirely the wrong kinds of people to be doing their jobs. It's regarded by many as more of a gatekeeper than anything else. It's genuinely sickening :dksays:

Someone said that being tall was their only source of confidence growing up, and I can relate to that. My voice was sort of the same for me. It was deep and resonant, and that made me feel good about myself at a time when I mostly felt terrible. There's nothing wrong with drawing confidence from something you like about yourself, as long as you don't use it against others. But that's just being a decent person :)

There's a woman on my sister's FB who whenever my sister posts pro-Corbyn stuff writes a comment that 'I won't vote Labour while Corbyn is leader'. On another bit of FB - our local town group - she's always posting that she's a life long LibDem voter. It's like all those folk who wrote that letter to the Graun such as Joanna Lumley - bezzie mates with Johnson - who 'won't vote labour because of Corbyn and anti-semitism' when they've never voted Labour and never will vote Labour in their whole entire lives.

It's just centrists being centrists. They're completely out of power in the Labour party and they'd rather everything went to poo poo than the left win and make things better. They know Labour are the better option but if they're not in charge they're going to take their ball and go home until everyone agrees to play another game of means testing and sensible bombings.

"But I don't understand why I am being unfairly called out about this" I say as I force feed more poor people into the gaping maw of capital so that I can continue to write editorials. "It just seems so unfair" one opines as they put down homeless spikes outside of tesco so that they don't have to see the results of their own feckless narrative. "I'm a human being" another says as they pretend that everything happening in a foreign country isn't anything to do with them whilst wearing a shirt saying "Bombs away".

Why is it that being human is always conditional on being just like these feckless sacks of poo poo rather than being human.

Saying sorry means she did something wrong, and she didn't do anything wrong. Labour did something wrong, by crashing the global economy via America for some reason. Tough decisions.
