There's nothing in it - on screen, at least - bigger or more spectacular than anything done by the previous movies, in most cases on a small fraction of the budget. (Inflation-adjusted, the budgets of TSWLM and Moonraker are $59m and $120m.) Aside from the Bond brand being about largesse in production--weird locations! the most... everything! (such as the largest practical explosion ever!)--product and service connections charging quadruple because they know it's a Bond film, and what Timby said, I'm not sure they're as expensive on the balance sheet when you count up all the endorsement deals.

Rami Malek's geometric office of concrete and the mysterious underground vault with the glowing rods is proper supervillain stuff, I love it.

The trailer is acting like I'm supposed to know the blonde girl and the guy in the cage. Are these people I forgot about because they were in Spetre, and Spetre is too terrible to remember?

Can't blame you. I had to do a double check too. Can't believe I didn't recognize Swann and Blofeld. I think that half broken mask looks cool. But apart from that? Is this another "going rogue" story?

After the critical failure of Spectre I kinda expected them to get scared and just pretend the whole Blofeld thing never happened, so I'm actually pleasantly surprised that they're sticking with it at least somewhat.

I still want to know what Danny Boyle's idea for the story was. Craig loved it, it's Broccoli and Wilson who flipped poo poo over it.

I still can't get over the fact that they finally got the rights to Blofeld and SPECTRE back after decades of being tied up in legal limbo, and their big idea for updating SPECTRE for the 21st century was to make the whole thing about Blofeld's petty jealousy towards his stepbrother. jesus loving christ

Given the villain's remarks about "my skills will live on forever" in the trailer, I wonder if the storyline will have something to do with AI. That could be fertile story territory for a 21st century bond movie.

Watching this I realized I want the next reboot to tread proper ground on overtly making Bond the goody two shoes enforcer of the capitalist west liberal interventionism fighting against a flawed but sympathetic man of the people trying to eradicate Western imperialism and capitalist destruction from his country. Because when you strip away all the subtext and manufacturing of consent that is who Bond ultimately is.

I can see it now...bond is chasing the big mcguffin train that he was told is shipping arms and munitions by the evil locks government. He jumps onboard, fighting off henchman left and right. Finally he makes it on board the train, he enters a compartment filled to the top with thousands of tarp covered pallets. He pulls back a tarp and it's ....food.

The Tom Ford costume designing has gotten way out of control.
