I've done the History of Rome one, though could clearly stand a relisten I don't really listen to podcasts, though I'd like to at some point. It's an auditory overload thing (autism again!) I'm sure other people can recommend some. I enjoyed the History of Rome podcast when I listened to it the first time quite a few years ago, although I bowed out during the later imperial period because I was getting a bit because I'm not anything like as familiar with it. But attempting a relisten a couple of years ago it kind of seemed a bit basic and credulous. I dunno. I didn't give it much of a chance the second time through. I could be wrong in that assessment. Edit: 59 BC: the year of the consulships of Caesar and Bibulus. Wikipedia says: quote:Their partnership was contentious to the extent that Caesar arranged for Bibulus to be doused in feces in Rome's main forum on the eve of an important vote. After this Bibulus withdrew from public politics for the rest of his term. Leading to wags calling it "the consulship of Julius and Caesar" Braggart fucked around with this message at 23:43 on Dec 4, 2019 |

The Roman general, whoever he was, actually rotated his troops out because he considered the massacre would be too much for them mentally, without breaks of 'normalcy'. So I read. aren't you that cuntish landlord

Oh and military strategists have been jacking off over Hannibal's greatest victory for over 2,000 years and trying to recreate it themselves. The Schlieffen Plan was apparently based on Cannae but, like, WTF? How do you base a Europe-wide strategy on the tactics used in a single battle? Ms Adequate assures me that strategy and tactics are not the same thing

Well why'd you care if you're loving off? But for those of us stuck here? To be honest I don't see the value in worrying about hypotheticals at this point, this is the leader we have for this campaign, just get the gently caress on with it. If you're worried about the result then get out and campaign. Knock on doors, phone bank, even just convince your friends & family, especially if they are in constituencies that Labour have a chance in. Donate to the campaign. Whatever you can do, do. The polling isn't worth worrying about. Just do the job, try to get Labour candidates elected and at the end of the day no matter what the result we can look back on the morning of the 13th December knowing that we could do no more. Then we can have the leadership conversation. Until then it's just pissing in the wind. Not even contemplating Labour losing. Far as I'm concerned, until the polls close & the exit poll is announced I am just assuming Labour will win every seat they are standing in because why the gently caress would you not vote for this manifesto? Also, you've keep typing loose when you mean lose. forkboy84 fucked around with this message at 00:28 on Dec 5, 2019 |

Admittedly it's a lot harder to do with bigger armies, but it was applied successfully on a strategic scale in WW2.
