It's one thing to air tapes of Smoky Mountain or ECW looking like poo poo from 1994, but an indie in 2019 looking the same probably makes them feel like it'd reflect badly, so they'd want to pour some money into production values, which goes against the whole point of those deals being a cheap way to neuter any chance of competition.

Any PNW goons know why Defy stopped coming down to Portland? I had been looking forward to their August show down here but then it never happened and they pulled the rest of their announced Portland dates too.

I know they had issues with their venue at the New Japan x DEFY shows where the management wouldn't allow bags in, and acted like a jackass to people with medical conditions who asked for legally required accommodations. No idea if it's related. You could ask Matt Farmer or Jim Perry on Twitter. There's also their facebook page. They tend to be pretty responsive. My best guess is that they can't find an appropriately sized venue. The Portland shows I went to held maybe a third the audience of Washington Hall. The New Japan x DEFY shows were at a place significantly larger but which they could not possibly fill on their own. They might have gotten into a situation where they sell out in a small venue but not with ticket prices high enough to profit.
