If you ask me Theatres of War is a rather fitting name for a game mode in a game that's all about players acting out a fantasy about future gameplay.

for a normal person giving money to cr is a pretty dumb move. for some of the backers they are losing that money anyway, they might actually get more out of being scammed by cr instead of their sisters boyfriend.

Wow, cool, I see the Star Citizen thread has gone off the deep end trying to own the epic reddit idiot for tilting at windmills on reddit. Great job, everyone. You really did it and in no way did you make yourselves look like a bunch of psychopaths. Look, I get that it's funny that the bad reddit man thinks there's some sort of goon conspiracy hiding behind every bush, and joking about all the evil top secret plans you're all doing gives you a kick because you know that you're joking. But, as Daztek so ably put it:

Daztek posted:

You shouldn't joke about doxxing him because there's a 100% chance he'll believe it, imo.

The Star Citizen weirdos who obsessively read this thread and report back on every post are deeply, almost impossibly stupid. In all likelihood they are going to take everything you say at face value, in which case a bunch of dumb jokes about doxxing might be contributing to a very real fear of being doxxed, which is hosed up. Of course, the response to that is "Well they don't really believe it, they're just being cynical and using it to make us look like bad guys!" which, aside from probably being an overestimation of some folks' abilities, still means that at the very best all you're doing is knowingly undermining the point about how there actually is no secret goon doxxing brigade or whatever. And, quite frankly, given the popularity of this thread there's a very real chance that some lunatic who joined so he could post "More like Chris Robbers, am I right?" a thousand times is gonna see a dozen posts ironically calling for doxxing someone, miss the joke, and just do it. Awesome, very normal, and extremely cool.

But honestly the bigger problem here is that y'all seem to have dialed in on one specific idiot and are getting really, intensely creepy about them. Look at the posts for the last two pages. Aside from a bunch of unbelievably stupid "haha im gonna doxx u" poo poo, it's entirely focused on one poster and a bunch of it isn't even related to Star Citizen. I haven't had to say this in quite a while, but this thread is absolutely not for doing deep dives on your favorite reddit idiots. I know a large part of the Star Citizen phenomenon is laughing about bad takes from people who spend too much money on Chris Roberts's Noclip Extravaganza and too much time worrying about Goons destroying their "game," but if y'all can't do that without doing this poo poo, we're going to have to make some changes, and if that doesn't fix it we'll stop allowing this kind of content here entirely.

The first change that I think will help is that we're not gonna do this stuff any more:

I don't want to see screencaps of someone responding to screepcaps of someone responding to screencaps, etc. It starts a feedback loop where posters start posting owns because they know some reddit dweeb will see them and they might get to be in the next set of screenshots, and it's bad for the thread. If people absolutely can't help but need to get into some sort of stupid Posting War with these idiots, you need to go make a reddit account and do it there or something. This weird cross-forums artillery barrage poo poo needs to stop. I also no longer want to see posting 'histories' in this thread: If you're going to post a funny reddit take, do not include another post from six months ago that is only connected by the fact that it's the same poster being an idiot. All of you should be able to laugh at bad star citizen takes without tilting at windmills yourselves. If you can't, we're gonna have some problems.

Just as a reminder to those of you who forgot, we have additional rules for this thread:

Beet Wagon posted:

While we're here, a quick reminder about the rules: In addition to the STANDARD FORUM RULES, some other rules apply for this thread:

  • Please don’t be a creep: It’s okay to mock a kickstarter creator who has no experience making an MMO for example, but it’s extremely not okay to mock a kickstarter creator because you dug through their Instagram and think their Thanksgiving dinner looks bad.

  • If you see something, say something: If you see a post that’s needlessly hostile or creepy or breaks one of the other forum rules, report it and move on.

Please don't turn this thread back into a problem thread.

With the ShitCan having been delayed until late November it seems awfully close to the holiday stream for them to prepare some noteworthy content for it...

:iiam: That being said, I'd imagine yes, they'll have to show something from Squadron54, err, 42 - the only possible reason I can think that they wouldn't is because they don't want to reveal any spoilers.

My guess is they didn't need it. SQ42 only needed to be a fancy privateer.
But then they spent so much time on their procedural planets tech, while neglecting everything else, so now this had to be integrated in SQ42 since it's pretty much the only "strong" feature they have and it could work as a positive preview of the possibilities in the full SC verse --as SQ42 sales are now supposedly an additional funding resource for the future development of SC.

Also you know, ED and No Man's Sky both got procedural planets in the meantime.

If I was building SC I would do the battles like Freespace's Squad War: Orgs would be able to attack people in instanced zones. The winner takes the system and then can attack connected systems. So yea you could have these giant capital ships duking it out, but crew them with only maybe 3 players; pilot, engineer, gunner (for all weapons). Everyone else can fly a variety of other ships.

If you want to do EVA/boarding action, players can escort a troop carrier that spawns from the main base. Players can choose to jump on the carrier, otherwise it's filled with AI. When it docks, you're now in a new server that's exclusively an FPS map. If there's not enough players to fill it out, the balance is filled with AI - like Angels fall First.

Funny to me that hamfisting procedural planets in SQ42 will probably make it more boring.
Travelling for 20 minutes in SC because there's no planetary beacon or whatever where you're going is incredibly tedious.
