Reason being of course is that vetting and deciding on a VP is a long and strenuous process that can take weeks, if not months* - you have to make sure they don't have anything in their past that could hurt the campaign, and it has to be someone that can either help deliver a key state or demographic in the general, or someone that you want to play a particular role in the administration. Ol' Joe for instance was chosen because he was an older white moderate, and because he had decades of experience and many relationships in the Senate that he could use to help advocate for Obama's policies. *the alternative gets you Sarah Palin.

It's funny, if you ignore the the nobodies Twitter intro and just read the quote it sounds like somebody who's reaching out for other voters. He's probably right that no party should have too much power and that there should be a loyal opposition of a sort to try to keep people honest, but those two parties are probably Democrats/Blue Dog Democrats and something like the DSA rather than Republicans and Democrats. At best it's forgetting what the Republican party has attempted to do over the last four years, at worst it's what he wants.

Biden's scared because the collapse of the Republican party would inevitably mean the chaotic split of the Democratic Party as the lack of a clear enemy would mean neo-liberals would lose the bogeyman they've exploited to keep voters in line while pushing an economic agenda favorable only to the 1%.

The Senate hasn't been "the greatest deliberative body in the world" ever since America broke its collective brain when the Islamic Shock got into the White House. It shows how wildly out of touch he is. I forgot what the source of it was, but someone once said that the Democrats are sitting down patiently at the chess table waiting for their opponent to show up but the Republicans have barricaded the doors, doused the building in gasoline, and are fumbling with their lighter. They have completely different objectives now.
