Those private polls led them to bet extremely heavily on Remain in the hours before the polls closed. Also the most likely thing to cause medium-term sterling volatility is largeish Tory majority allowing Boris to Hindenburg us into a no-deal Brexit.

Same OP. I think this is becoming a more common feeling than you think, even if people won't admit it. I'm relatively mentally healthy so for the most part I keep myself sane with stupid dark humour, but just occasionally something cuts through and I find myself on the verge of tears - and I know exactly who to blame. I'm not yelling at people on the street or fighting people, and while I do drink too much it doesn't get in the way of my work or relationships. I'm outwardly very polite and normal and I would kill every single one of them with my bare hands if it was in my power and not illegal MI5 of course lol . I would happily watch a Tory bleed out on the street without a shred of emotion but satisfaction. I can't begin to describe the sheer hate I feel towards them.

I recognise that this is not a healthy way to be, but it's inevitable, and if more than me and you feel like that - and they do - there's only so long the floodgates can hold.

Evening folks!

As most of you should be aware by now, the podcast crew is running an alternative election night stream so you don't feel like you're alone in laughing at Laura K as her world dissolves around her.

The details are in the OP, but it'll be at http://twitch.tv/praxiscast from 21:30 on Thursday night until either we're content we know how it's going, or nobody is sober enough to continue the stream.

TONIGHT at 8 there will be a meeting about the livestream to try and gauge how many people we'll have on, plan out some stuff and take ideas from any of you that might want to get involved, so join us on the discord (link in OP) from 8!

BONUS

We'll also be doing a watchalong of Labour: The Summer That Changed Everything aka, The melts kick themselves in the dicks repeatedly.

Join us!

While not directly my job, this has been talked about by the people who do it for a little while, so in no particular order

A) Neither a hung parliament (uncertainty) nor a Tory minority (brexit catastrophe) offer anything good for the city, which is both risk and uncertainty averse

B) End of year wind down often sees drops as people stop work for their 2-3 week vacations and close out their open trades, this also sees a dip around now, which rarely gets reported because nothing happens around now, and who the hell does an election in Mid-December

C) Gremlin invasion is a yearly event, people want to shut off their liabilities before they take over the offices.

I don't know how else to feel, every aspect of this society is telling me that it isn't for me. I'm just here to work and prop up everyone else. I'm not here to be a part of it. And I'd feel less insulted if they weren't so loving patronizing about it. If they didn't pretend like it was otherwise. It's one enormous insult made up of a thousand mindless platitudes.

Hmm, Financial Times has been writing though that sterling always ticks up a bit recently whenever it seems that conservatives will get a majority. Apparently because of the ensuing "stability" as in "at least something will get done for sure" or I dunno

This is it, I think this is what the market movement is about. The polls have tightened up so it's not an unreasonable assumption for us plebs to make either. Indicators of either a Tory or a Labour majority would not really suggest volatility because I think a lot of Brexit/NDB anxiety is already baked into the market because it's been going on for so long. Extended uncertainty is what investors hate (outside of jam socialism).

To be precise. There were private polls that did not say this, and in the final day indicated a leave win, and Farage et al pushed the opposite, including his infamous 'not quite a surrender' interview, which caused the markets to shift, and people who had shorted the pound, some of which had links to Farage, made a killing.

There has been no significant investigation on this, as would (well idealistically) have happened in the US, because the Tories have shut down all investigation they can into any irregularities with Brexit, even with our, and foreign, security and intelligence services have reported significant irregularities and manipulation. Something, something the party is all that matters.

I have received a leaflet from the Social Democratic Party in Edinburgh South West. It's SNP, and likely to stay that way (terf-tastic!)

Mev Brown seems to think Brexit will solve everything. Here is the text from the leaflet, with my annotations:

Part 1

I work in the homeless sector*. I am passionate about tackling the housing crisis, homelessness and rough sleeping. Recent figures show that as many as 500,000 Scottish adults 18 to 65 live with their parents**.

Analysis shows there is a 50% chance that you do, or you know somebody that does***.

I want every fellow citizen to have a home to call their own. I know we can never solve the housing crisis while members of the European Union****. But I estimate that housing waiting lists can be halved within 5-10 years of a clean Brexit and ended within 10-15 years*****.

Vote for me and you are voting to end Scotland's housing crisis!

*Little more detail please. Do you help them or harm them?
**Ah, the homeless who live in homes (by this I mean that he moved on very swiftly from homelessness platitudes with no proposal to help people living on the streets)
***Excellent analysis, Mev
****Show your working
*****This seems a little unambitious given that Labour will be ending homelessness immediately. And I'm pretty sure the only way you could do it is by tagging along with Labour's policies. I reckon I'll vote Labour.

Part 2

Some people stick in your mind. I remember talking to a teenage lass* who wasn't having much luck getting her first job as a barmaid.

I knew one of the bars she mentioned and went along**. Yes, they had a new barmaid. Graduate, great English, well-travelled, good chat.

It was obvious why she got the job. But my thoughts were with that teenager***.

*Do you now
**Did you now
***Were they now

Part 3

After Brexit, fellow citizens will get first chance at new jobs*. School leavers and new grads will be the biggest winners*. If somebody is not up to the task, then fair play, foreign citizens could then apply*. But, this is why I campaigned for Brexit, this is where my political priority, my loyalty is.

Vote for Mev Brown, STANDING UP FOR OUR SCHOOL LEAVERS & NEW GRADUATES**!

*Will they now
**Will you now

This is obviously the Corbyn Crash by Christmas that the egg was going on about this morning.

quote:

We can win in Wycombe. We can unseat Steve Baker. We can put Jeremy Corbyn in Number 10. But we can only do that with your help on Thursday 12th December.

Helping on the 12th is very easy. From 7am to 9pm, just turn up at one of our two 'Committee Rooms' and we'll get you out dropping leaflets or knocking doors.

On your own or in a group, it doesn't matter. We're expecting scores of volunteers, so you'll never be waiting long for a group to form!

Get Out and loving Help us Win This comms have gone out from the local CLP. They're expecting scores of volunteers. Not dozens, scores, so many that they have to run two different offices just to sort out the goddamn parking nightmare!

Just to address this one point, there's a difference between being homeless (including "functionally homeless"), living in temporary accommodation, and rough sleeping, and only that last group don't live in homes. People trapped with their parents because they can't even afford a rental deposit let alone a mortgage, families with not enough bedrooms, and people sofa-surfing with friends are all still homeless, just obviously at varying degrees of priority for housing.

Yes, I'm aware. It was just a strange segue from platitudes about the homeless to "and here's how I'm going to help you" as the meat of that point.

My meaning was that it's much, much broader than people who fall into the category of being homeless, and the first part felt like a sop with no actual proposal to deal with it. Nothing about homelessness charities?
